Has anyone investigated how you renew your retirement visa or check in if you are mentally or physically disabled? I live in Bangkok. I understand a will or poa or living will etc. helps. If you know anyone who has experienced this, that would be valuable. Please only serious responses.
Answer summary
Renewing a retirement visa in Thailand, specifically the NON-O visa, can be done without an agent, though experiences vary. The renewal process requires proof of monthly income (minimum 65,000 THB) or 800,000 THB in a Thai bank for the first year. Documentation needed includes bank statements, proof of income (such as pension letters), copies of passport pages, and forms like TM7 and STM2. Some expats noted recent changes in requirements at different immigration offices. For those who are mentally or physically disabled, it's important to inquire specifically about any modifications or additional documentation that may be needed.

Is it possible to do this just showing transfers from international bank to my Thai bank-account.

What I mean is that I can not show the money is from pension but still 12 month transfers of more then 65.000 THB to my Thai bank?

Björn Nordberg You don't need to be on a pension to be eligible for retirement visa extension. Only requirements are to be 50+ and qualify financially in terms of 65k a month transfer into Thailand or 800k in the bank. Immigration don't care about the source of the income as such. It used to be that immigration would accept proof of a pension as sufficient for financial eligibility but that's pretty much gone now as very few Embassies will provide a statement in support of financial eligibility and quite a few immigration offices apparently won't accept anyway. They just want the bank letter confirming funds either way

Mark Barron / Ok. If this is correct (and I hope) it would then be fine for me to extend my visa in april next year. I have since January made a transfer to my bank in Thailand every month of atleast 65K thb.

Also from what I can read I need to renew the visa at earliest 1 month before it expires?

For that reason my Visa then must expire within a month before I go back home?

Also I heard about an additional application to get multiple entries (Like my normal retirement Visa has).

Maybe you can tell me if I am thinking correctly here and give advice if I misunderstand something?

Thank you

Mark Barron well I know a British guy who every year has to present a letter from the pension company to immi - but probably that's quite unusual.

It might depend what country you are.. My first two years I used an agent because I did not know how to do it. My third year and fourth year I used the 65,000 a month method. I was able to prove I had the income in my country to support the Visa. I could prove that with a letter from the Embassy of my country. In the 5th year my Embassy refused to give out the letter anymore and I could not renew.

Michael A J Labelle that's horrible Michael, didn't they give you any warning they would withdraw the service. Could you switch to the monthly 65,000 baht international transfer method instead?

Stuart Chiverton They peeved a lot of people off with that. They stranded 1000s of us. The reason was not logical.

A lot of countries still do it. America, Australia and England had already stopped doing it. Then Canada followed suit.

Yes when I got the last letter they told me they would not do it next year.

I did not want to move that much money into Thailand because I did not need it to support myself and I was still maintaining a home in Canada.

The following list is for applicants who can still use an income affidavit from their embassy as proof of income

*** Myself I apply for a new 1-year extension every year. You need to show the following:

*** a legalized by my country’s embassy in Bangkok income affidavit which is certifying I have a pension over 65,000 THB equivalent.

*** Immigration wants to know the source of the income, I show them that it is a government pension, and this gets mentioned in the embassy income affidavit. Which satisfies Immigration.

*** You must be TM30 registered in your accommodation in order to receive any service from Immigration.

*** Copies of the detail page of my passport and the page with the entry stamp and the page with the recent extension of stay stamp.

All copies must be signed by me in blue ink.

*** Immigration wants to see my bank book, which must have been updated on the same day. It should show that I at least transfer some money in from abroad to pay for my living expenses in Thailand.

*** I need to sign forms STM2, STM10 and STM11

*** I need to fill out form TM7 and TM47

*** need to bring two passport size pictures (for the re-entry permit purchase)

In Hua Hin they do not accept the affidavit from the Belgian embassy anymore.

Move to Bangkok ???? 🤣

And o.k .... not everything has changed but some . I have been here for 16 years 😉

And I believe you use the German Embassy ? I know from a German friend they do legalise the affidavit. The Belgian embassy only approves your handwriting on the affidavit and is no more accepted in Hua Hin.
Greg ***********
Greg ***********
Rik Samijn like it is I said - the income affidavit of the Belgian Embassy is widely accepted on all of the 85 Immigration offices inside Thailand. Except that the Hua Hin corrupt office is scamming applicants, they want applicants to use agents so they can earn a backhander.
Greg ***********
Greg ***********
Hubert Kiekens "but everything has changed" . . no, nothing has changed. You just must use the correct office. The one in the Blueport is the wrong office, but <ou said you weren't using the Blueport office. I just can't believe a Belgian embassy income affidavit is worthless. As long as an embassy is STILL ISSUING an affidavit, they do it being fully aware that Thai Immigration will accept it. . . I reckon those Hua Hin Immigration gangsters want you to use an agent and pay tea money so they can have a share. Move to Bangkok, book into a hotel, get their TM30 and apply for your extension at Chaeng Wattana

There is only one where you can do your yearly visa extension.

There is a second small one in a shopping centre downtown but that one is only used for the 90 days notice and I think tourists can go there for an extension of their tourist visa .

The 65,000 baht monthly income path

Is only eligible for year 2 - not the first 12 month extension ( the first 12 months has to be 800K baht in a Thai bank in your name )
Curt **********

I’ve done it many times. You need to supply:

12 months of Thai bank statements showing a minimum of 65,000 in international transfers coming into the account for each and every month.

Proof of source of income such as a statement showing government or private pension or a letter of guarantee from your embassy showing 65K or more of income.

Your yellow tambien ban and copies.

Copies of the blue tambien ban signed by the owner.

Rental agreement if applicable.

Copies of every page of your passport.

Copies of your bank book that was updated the same day. A certificate of account from your bank showing you name and account number and balance ( amount doesn’t matter)

Photo, no glasses

TM7 and STM.2

I went to Immigration to ask exactly what they needed to accept 65 000bht monthly

1. letter from my bank stating that I received 12 monthly 65 000bht from outside Thailand.

2. Letter from my source of revenu that confirmed the amount I receive in pension (before taxes)

It's not as strait forward as the 800 000thb but it can be done

My husband did a non o-a retirement visa without an agent. We were able to show the 65kbaht but it took a lot longer than we had hoped, because we hit some snags on the insurance and the medical exam. We did 3 dependant visas but only mine was approved. An agent would have made our lives easier

Patrucio Lainocente have you ever done it or do you always use an agent? It requires one a4 form at immigration (they sometimes get you to sign a couple of extra forms). The only additional thing you require is provided by the bank, so what is so difficult? It took me about 1 hour at the bank and 30 minutes at immigration a few months ago.

I have extended my stay based on retirement using the 65,000 baht method in Hua Hin (after the initial 1 year extension using 800,000 baht). It was very simple, I didn't use an agent and it was essentially the same documents, although I needed 12 monthly bank statements showing the deposit in my account and the bank verified each of them was an international transfer. It took me about an hour in the bank and 30 minutes at immigration and that included filling the form in and getting a re-entry permit, so you can decide if that requires an agent.

Stuart Chiverton Thanks for your input. After I start collecting my pension and SS will I have to wait 12 months to show the 65k Thai Baht to qualify?
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
John Doty yes you need 12 month of 65,000 baht at the point you apply for your extension.
Alan **********
Alan **********
Stuart Chiverton So, you've gone through it. So let me ask you then......

Firstly, how did you make out back in January when your pension check arrived too early, resulting in 2 deposits in one month and no deposit the next month. You turned off commenting before you told us how you made out ? Did Thailand understand and allow it ?

Secondly - so, you had 800K Baht in the account for a year, then switched to 65K per month. After year 2, that'd be roughly 1,600K Baht in the account (minus your living expenses ?).

Did you do something with the original 800K or just leave it there, intending that account to be your (only/main) "Thai account" going forward ? Move it to a savings account ? Withdraw it and invest it in stocks, bonds, or some other return-oriented account ?

And when were you able to take out the original 800K ? When the full year of 65K deposits was over ? Or could you withdraw it once you started the 65K monthlies (seems unlikely) ?

Could you be withdrawing Baht monthly to live on during the "65K year" ? How did that work ?

TIA
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
Alan Rothwell it's really not complicated.
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
Alan Rothwell no idea what your point about how much money I had in my account, yes I spend money in Thailand...and?
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
Alan Rothwell I withdrew the 800,000 baht after I extended my stay for 12 months and none of your business what I did with it.
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
Alan Rothwell the extension I explained was in October 2025. The problem I had with the deposits was this year and I fixed it.
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
Alan Rothwell firstly I didn't turn off comments about anything. I fixed the problem by sending an extra 65,000 baht. The requirement is that you send 65,000 baht every single month.
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
No, just proof from your bank it was an international transfer at Hua Hin. I think i have seen that some offices require proof of where the money came from (pension letter or similar).

Don’t need the certification from the embassy anymore as most embassies don’t issue them anymore.

It depends on what you are calling a retirement visa and where you currently are.

The Non-OA visa is a 12 month multiple entry visa that you can only apply for in your home country and you can show monthly income to get it, it also requires insurance, police checks, medical certificate etc.

The Non-O is a 90 day visa that you can get outside Thailand by showing monthly income, it can be extended inside Thailand indefinitely 12 months at a time but the 1st 12 month extension requires 800k baht in a Thai bank, during that 1st year you can transfer 65k baht from overseas for each of the 12 months immediately prior to applying for 2nd and subsequent extensions.

You can also apply for the 90 day Non-O visa inside Thailand but it requires you have a Thai bank account containing a minimum of 800k baht, some immigration offices require it comes from overseas
