I am hearing some changes to renewing a one year retirement visa?

I used an agent last year. I have a bank account with Bangkok bank. Agent says no problem come 1 month before its due. I have a few months..... What's everyone's expierence since renewing with their agent only in last few months or so.

Appreciate response. I used search function. Didn't find anything.

I am hearing about bank accounts being frozen and other issues.

My embassy doesn't verify funds for me.

Also I was ignorant and did not update my passbook as I couldn't find it for a bit so it doesn't show my consistent income of 65k + monthly entries .

Is there a way to get that from bank ? Is it necessary. ?

I really dont want to put up and leave 800k in a bank here. Whole reason I did my visa with an agent. If you know you remember how that hurdle is addressed. I am hearing that they can't do that anymore. Hence the 4 month freeze is what i think they're doing. Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks for the help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
There have been recent discussions about the renewal process for retirement visas in Thailand, especially concerning bank requirements. Many expats are clarifying the need for 800,000 baht in a Thai bank to comply with financial regulations or whether using the 65,000 baht monthly deposit method is viable. Users shared their varied experiences, particularly the tightening of policies by certain banks like Bangkok Bank, and the necessity for updated bank documents when applying for extensions. It's emphasized that the best course of action is to directly consult the immigration office or the agent managing the visa renewal.

You only need to pay the agent if you cannot afford to leave B800k in a Thai bank.

I am missing your points guys…no need for agents…I have 800,000 baht in a semi locked bank account…I leave it alone and cash in on the interest accumulated…not sure what everyone’s status here is but if you are being taken care of by a Thai person…why not help her or her family….you don’t need an agent if you just do everything up front,,,it really is easy..

Immigration should absolutely demand to see the bank book for the account.. at least if they are doing their job properly.. because they will check back to see that the terms of the previous visa application were actually met.. meaning not just the original seasoning period but the post issuance period as well.. and this will not necessarily be visible from bank statements alone.. at least my personal experience in CM has been that they still want to see the bank book if you try to present them with just bank statements.. although i accept that a different IO on a different day may think differently!

It ultimately depends on the agent you’re working with, so it’s best to check with your current agency.

Alternatively, you’re welcome to use our service. We currently charge 14,000 THB for yearly retirement visa extensions, and we support all provinces.

We can service up to 6 months before your expiration date without losing any days.

Assuming you are using the 65k method, which is what I do, no need show updated pass book. What is needed is the bank letter showing 12 monthly foreign deposits.
Max *************
@Glenn ****
You mean a 12 months bank statement. The bank letter doesn't show any transactions.
John **********
There are no changes to the immigration requirements to get an annual extension
John ********
Ask your bank for a one year statement. Takes about one week. My immigration office also asked for a bank guarantee letter dated same day as you apply for the extension. Never asked to look at bank book as they have the one year bank letter.
Max *************
@John *******
I'm using copies of my bank book going back 14 months plus the bank letter. No need for a 12 months bank statement.
Lee ****
To OP,Yr agent already tell you no issues,so why don't you trust them,rather than coming

here to ask for info that might not be relevant

as each individual sitution will not be the same.
Max *************
@Lee ***
You are most likely incapable of doing things yourself.

@Lee ***
because they’re tired of getting ripped off by greedy,sneaky agents… just sayin ✌️you asked…
Barry *******
What happens to the 800,000bht when you kick the bucket guys?just curious
Eakkawee **********
@Barry ******
what happens when you don't have a will?
David **********
@Barry ******
If u dont gsve a will and someone to assert it, it will dissapear
Andy **********
@Barry ******
I think you need to make a will, and leave instructions, to who is the beneficiary of all your assets, assuming you have any, if unclaimed I think it just goes to the government, as far as I'm aware it's the same in any country.
Max *************
@Barry ******
You haven't heard about "last will and testament"?
John **********
@Barry ******
you can take it with you, wherever you end up. Of course it might not be much use to you
Nick **********
@Barry ******
Will it matter when your dead?
Lee ****
I just did it with bangkok bank, 2,days ago.no issues.Go check with yr agent to get the best info directly.
Max *************
How come you and so many retirees thinks that 800k is a fortune? Parking the money in a Fixed Deposit Account in a Thai bank isn't imo bad.
Glenn *****
@Max ************
Very presumptuous of you. I don't understand why people like you don't have LTR visas.
Max *************
@Glenn ****
Because I'm smart,retired and living in Thailand long term.1,900 baht/year is what I pay. I can do everything at immigration in my sleep. Why would I need an LTR? Please tell.
Peter **********
@Max ************
You are also a braggart. Looking down on people who may not have as much money as you and boasting about it is the sign of a low life.
Mark **********
@Max ************
because properly invested, you’re missing out on decent returns on that money. Sucks to have to just let it sit and waste potential earnings…
Max *************
@Mark *********
So, 800k is a very large portion of your savings?
Wannikea *********
You'd get a 12 month statement from the bank showing the activity, as well as updating your bank book on the day of the extension. But you still need to comply with the pre extension minimum 400K 800k banked funds method I believe.

Edited..
Glenn *****
@Wannikea ********
it appears that he is using the 65k method. If so there is no requirement of 400 K. At least not for me.
Wannikea *********
@Glenn ****
he's trying to change funding requirements from 800k to monthly
Graham ******
@Glenn ****
that's because it wasn't your second extension was it?
Brandon ************
@Glenn ****
if he used an agent last year, he needs to be able to show he met the financial requirements of last year's extension. That means 800,000 in the account for 3 months after last year's extension and never letting the account drop below 400,000 the rest of the year. PLUS the monthly transfers to switch to that method this year.
Wannikea *********
@Brandon ***********
is hard to get off the agent merry-go-round
Brandon ************
@Wannikea ********
that's not even counting if the previous one was a conversion+visa done on an impossible timeline or they got the extension from a far-flung province. Both of which would make it impossible to get off this year even if you had your own money all year.
Mary *********
@Brandon ***********
I believe that’s correct. You cannot drop the agent and use 800 k for the extension. It needs to be in there a full year if you plan to drop the agent according to agents themselves!
Graham ******
@Wannikea ********
and 800k for the first 3 months
Brandon ************
There will always be ways to use an agent. Just check with your agent a month out as they said. If they can't do it, find a new agent. It's only Bangkok Bank that's affected by a new internal policy, and that's only if your agent hasn't found a new Bangkok Bank branch that will work with them.
Laurie ********
Bangkok bank has clamped down on agents putting in 800,000 baht and taking it out again within minutes. A lot of agents asking for customers to use different banks. Best to confirm with your agent. Or if you have made 12 or over regular monthly deposits each of 65,000 baht you can use that method
Monzi *************
@Laurie *******
- I was able to extent my non O for another 12 months with just the monthly 65K THB

Without any issue

No 800k or 400k
Graham ******
@Monzi ************
so not your second extension then
Max *************
@Monzi ************
It's either 65k/month or 800k in a Thai bank account.
Graham ******
@Laurie *******
not without the 800k in the account for up to 3 months after the last extension was approved then not falling below 400k for the rest of the year
Pete *******
First stop is your local immigration office to get a list of the requirements needed for your extension. If you used an agent previously to bypass the financial requirements you are pretty much stuck with using an agent.
