Does anyone have experience moving from DTV to Non-immigrant B visa?

I have held DTV for the last year, and now need to apply for Non-immigrant B visa. I know I need to do this online and outside of Thailand. 

I have been given conflicting advice - do I need to cancel my DTV visa before applying for Non-B?

If I do need to cancel the DTV, do I cancel it before or after leaving Thailand (but of course before applying for the Non-B)?

You might be able to convert your DTV to a Non-B inside Thailand which is theoretically possible but depends on your immigration office allowing it and the company you intend to work for supplying the extension paperwork required to apply for a Non-B inside Thailand. Usually companies want you to apply outside Thailand because the paperwork required is much less, in which case you will need to find a way to cancel your DTV before you apply, usually through the consulate that issued it

Why don’t you just change to Non-B from inside of Thailand at the local immigration?

As for the outside of Thailand way of obtaining a new Non-B visa, you need to ask your corresponding embassy. There is no hard rule about applying for a visa while still holding another.
