Query. I am in Australia and wish to go to the Phuket Sandbox. The question is, when I get all the papers that the Thai embassy requires (insurance, vaccination, accommodation etc. ), to get the COE, do I send all this to Canberra and get the COE and then fly and get the visa in Phuket, or will I get the visa in Canberra.Thanking all.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Australian citizen can travel to the Phuket Sandbox without needing a visa for 30 days, as they are eligible for a visa-exempt entry. To obtain the Certificate of Entry (COE), they must gather the required documents such as insurance, vaccination proof, and accommodation details, and then apply for the COE online. No need to send the passport to Canberra; it can be presented upon arrival in Phuket.

, I did not think you could leave Australia unless you go for a minimum of 90 days.

What visa are you looking at? If you're tourist it's easier not to bother with visa. Just arrive on visa-exempt basis and you will be stamped in for 45 days, with the option to extend a further 30 days. As there's no visa, you won't have to send your passport anywhere, and you can apply for the COE online, once you have flight, accommodation and insurance arranged

I have applied for a COE to get to Pattaya, but same process. your COE is just the permit to be allow to arrive and enter Thailand, it does not specify a length of time, your Visa does this. You can apply for a COE specifying to the embassy you wish to use the visa free 45 day entry. Once you arrive you can start the 30 day extension.

flights... technically you must have a flight in and out of Thailand. some embassies look for both, as mine did in Jakarta, others didn't. some people use non-genuine flights tickets ($5 online) to get the exit flight, but I am not advocating that, i am using a one way in the Bangkok and an exit flight fully flexed with Emirates to Dubai that I can extend for a year at no change.

So.. 1. start the COE, get the first stage approval.

2. get a flight out

3. Get your vaccinations sorted (both for sandbox)

4. Get your SHA+ hotel Sorted

5. Add all of this to your COE record, and get final approval.

the only part I cannot confirm is how you get permission to leave Australia, but as previously stated if your leaving for > 90 days you just tell them that...

can an onward flight be Phuket to Bangkok? or does it have to be out of the country?
Bobby ********
Chris Beitsch. Yes. Out of the country. There's a couple of ways of doing it. You can buy a cheap ticket and just forfeit it, or buy a fully flex ticket and get a full refund (don't use Thai airways, as they're only giving credits at the moment). Alternatively you can buy a phantom ticket where you pay for an apparent booking which doesn't actually take place, but you get a written confirmation of a flight.

Has to be out of the country. You need a return flight or onward travel within 45 days of your arrival
Bobby ********
Chris Beitsch. If you're coming on a visa exempt you'd need an onward flight.

@Bobby *******
would be interesting to know if they are getting 45 or back to 30 for sandbox

@Michael *******
. Apparently it's still 45 up until September 1st. A buddy of mine came in about ten days ago. What happens after September 1st is anyone's guess.

As an Australian you don't need a visa for 30 days.
