Hi All.

Just wondering if a child (under 15) overstays.

1) Will they get an Overstay stamp in their passport?

2)If so are there any consequences thereof in the future, entering Thailand?

3) Will it help after leaving and re-entering, to get an extension after the 30days on arrival are over knowing that you will "overstay" again.

Thank you in advance for your response.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the implications of a child under the age of 15 overstaying their visa in Thailand. It clarifies that while children do receive an 'Overstay' stamp upon departure, they are generally not fined for overstays. Concerns are raised about potential future problems, especially regarding entry into Thailand and school enrollment, although entering the country for children seems less complicated due to exemptions. It is advised that keeping a child's visa status legal could facilitate smoother schooling experiences in Thailand.

Why even OVERSTAY ? Stay legal. Stop gaming the immigration system.

Do what is needed to get legal extensions or visas.

Vinique Herholdt Possibly Tod Daniels has good option for you. If you are working legally in Thailand with work permit possibly there is a visa solution for the child living with you. I am not the expert. But do feel Thai Immigration is not too happy with those who overstay and those who misuse various visas to stay in Thailand long term. Having the red overstay stamp in the childs passport could pose future problems...in Thailand and with other countries too. Good luck to you.

Your response is completely in my original plan. However leaving the country every 2 months while working might not always be possible. Could be costly as well. Hence the question as last resort option.

Clear that up asap!!!

Children under the age of 15 are not charged a fine for overstaying but still get overstay stamps when they leave the country. Not 100% sure of any future issues, but probably none.

My 3 year old British son goes to pre-school here and we needed to show my, my wife's and his passport when enrolling in the school. He has an Extension as my dependent. To be honest, I'm fairly sure if he hadn't been here legally, it would not have been an issue, but I'm cautious about these things!

You start getting fined at 15 and up, so it would make sense to get things organized on an ED visa before that. Under 15 I would imagine a lot of kids go to school with no visa and have no problems. Don't have personal experience on the subject however.

My only worry would be long term if you want the child to go to school in Thailand. Having overstay stamps in their passport might be a problem for some schools. If it's not a hassle it might be better to keep them legal.

Thanks :)

Yes, totally correct.

Also as far as I am aware (someone can confirm), under the ages of 18 is exempt from blacklisting. Correct...?

At the moment only the Thai Consulate in Penang is checking for overstay stamps in the passport when applied for a visa. What the future will bring even the gurus can not see in their crystal balls.
Michael ********
I shouldn't think so, but the gurus will confirm this.
