I’m switching to a Non-ED visa for my Master’s degree and will apply in Lao. My current DTV was issued in Cambodia.
How does the DTV cancellation process work? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Answer summary
The user is looking for advice on the process of canceling their DTV visa, which was issued in Cambodia, to switch to a Non-ED visa for their Master’s degree application in Laos. They have received various responses highlighting that cancellation can be done through the local immigration office in Thailand or through the embassy that issued the DTV visa if the applicant is outside Thailand. Some comments suggest maintaining the DTV visa if possible, while others emphasize the necessity of cancellation as required by some universities for enrollment.

Oh I did not know one could do a masters in Thailand. Good for you.
Will your home country accept the Thai masters in your field?
None of my business just curious and looking out for you. :)
The easiest thing is to visit your local immigration office inside Thailand and ask them if they will allow you to convert your DTV to an ED visa. If they will, get their handout of requirements for the ED visa, gather together everything you need to apply for the ED visa, including paperwork from the university and apply for it. If they won't you have no choice but to contact the consulate that issued the DTV and request they cancel it, but you have to already be outside Thailand when you do so. Also they don't have to cancel it so be polite and hope for the best.
HumbleCaribou991 sure - someone yesterday just also randomly wanted to cancel their DTV for an ED, visa was issued in Cambodia, but traveled to Laos. You can either have the embassy in Cambodia cancel it (no other embassy can) or immigration can transfer it
HumbleCaribou991 yes you must cancel to apply for a different visa. The real question is, why cancel? Is the university requiring you to be on ED visa?
สมองควาย ๒๕๖๘ We were not talking about a marriage visa here,, that is completely different to DTV
I just can understand that some universities don't want their students to stay in the country on tourist visa where they have to leave every now and then, but if you cannot understand, so be it.
and if the person is married or has a Thai child and has non-o they should also not be allowed to study? Someone cannot work online and study? Give me a break!
