Just realised I’ve made a big mistake before I renew my retirement visa next wednesday appreciate any ideas I don’t expect this is the first time but I received my Thai visa last year and didn’t realise that it was 3 months I wasn’t to dip below the 800,000 but because I just cracked on with life I’ve realised I didn’t have the 800k on the 90 day I had 789.000k so I was 11 days early and had dipped into it by a small amount 11,000 that I should not of spent do immigration have any flexibility as I now have a lot more money that had been sitting in my bank these last 7 months
Summary so far
The user realizes they've dipped below the required 800,000 baht in their bank account for their retirement visa renewal after spending 11,000 baht. They are seeking advice on whether immigration will be flexible with this requirement. Community members suggest consulting an agent for assistance, combining bank accounts, and ensuring the 800,000 baht remains untouched for the necessary duration. Some recount personal experiences of similar issues and the potential consequences of the mistake.

nope...you'll likely be getting a temporary extension of stay stamp and after the 800 is vested and you go back, you'll basically be starting the whole retirement process again with all documents...been there done that...

It can vary by province and who the immigration officer is but a agent can sort it for a fee

It happens. You can start all over again. Sometimes they don't notice. But it happened to a friend of mine and he left got a new non o and returned. It is not the end of the world.

Agents in Pattaya only need 3 months of statements to get the Extension so you would get your Extension using them. Cost would be around 8000 baht without a re-entry permit.

What if I need to leave the country go to immigration
David *******

Vincent May You can get a reentry permit at extra cost I just quoted the price without. Agent will charge an extra 1000 for single and 4500 for multiple. Up to you if you get it at same time as your Extension - depends what your plans are. Just make sure you do get one before leaving the country.

Doubt it very much. They went back 15 months on mine because I had my first stamp by an agent. I had 800K and 65K per month as a double precaution on my first 12 months all year round, but unfortunately I had to pay 16K to renew my stamp. Everything should be good from now on. Immigration were very helpful. It could have swung the other way. I would expect that you might have to start the retirement process all over again. Don't take my word for it as every office is different and you won't get the correct answer on here, the only way is when you go, make sure you have as much paperwork as possible and a lump of cash.

did you convert from tourist to non-O with the agent who also got you the extension at the same time. That's a very clear sign to every immigration office that you used an agent because it's impossible to have the non-O visa and extension with the same date unless you use an agent. But if you just get a regular extension with an agent and you have your own money in the bank, there should be no issue doing it yourself next time.

@Brandon ***********
Yes. This last time I did it myself, that's why I had to pay the 16K or I would have had to sort it all over again within a week before my Non O ran out. So it's all correct now. But after all the advice I got from an agent who is very good at what he does. I won't be using an agent again because immigration seem to find fault with agents. I would imagine it's all to do with them forefronting the 800K and immediately taking it back out again which obviously forfeits the 3 month after rule. All sorted correctly now. I just leave the 800K in the bank all year. No I didn't convert from tourist visa. I've always had a non o retirement stamp.

Why take the chance?? Just leave and return 30 day exempt.. start over.?? Can't one go ask your immigration office now?? Find out what they would do?? Do the math. Expense of fine VS out and back..

If what you add in later comment, you should be ok. You can use the money but not go below 400k for the first 9 or 10 months. The last 2 or 3 months need to be back to 800k or above. Others may validate or correct this...

2 choices, go and see an agent or go through the whole process again ...you will find when it comes to things like this they are very precise...if you were only one baht short it would be not enough and cancelled ....thats the way it is and its fair enough for them to do that

On another note, I realise that having 800,000 baht or equivalent in a bank account is a prerequisite, for at least six months. Does it mean any bank account, including any account held outside of Thailand and can that also be your superannuation account?

it's not illogical at all. I'm sure they've been burdened by many foreigners becoming destitute over the years. It's meant to prevent you becoming their problem.
Brandon ************
Brandon ************
@Ken ***********
it's for emergencies. So the Thai government doesn't think you'll become their problem if you have a heart attack or something. If that's the only money you have left to use, then they don't want you here anymore after that and you will not be eligible for your next extension.

Ken Hutchinson income is not a requirement.

If you run out of money you have 800k to pay what you can and go home with.

They won't let you stay once the 800k is used and you can't top up.

He means the 3 months AFTER the 800k฿ has to stay in his bank account. With marriage you can take the 400k฿ immediately after the year extension is granted. But 2 months before getting a new one, it has to be on the bank again.

You need the Thai bank letter indicating your account balance over the last two months. If you had 800k over that period, when you combine two accounts then show the two bank letters.

If you replaced the same day then there should not be a problem. I accidentally paid a 50k deposit on a new house from my Immigration account, forgot to check the account numbers! Agency to make the oversight disappear, then religiously make sure it doesn't happen again.
Brandon ************

You can beg forgiveness, but that usually only works if you immediately noticed and fixed it the same day.

If rejected, you'll need to leave Thailand and get a new non-O visa, or use an agent.

just keep your money in your bank account the correct amount of time and ensure that the agent will be helping to get the extension from your immigration office, and you shouldn't have any issues doing it yourself next year.

Of course you can. There’s no stipulation that you have to keep using an agent just because you used one once. Agents are the handy way to get you what you want and then move on.

You need to have separate bank accounts. One for immigration, and one for daily life. And you won’t make this mistake again
Floyd ******

John Letaw also be sure to have more than 800,000 in there in case there are fees that are taken out over time
Brook ********
Brook ********
John Letaw good advice.

The second account should be an interest bearing FIXED DEPOSIT ACCOUNT at a separate bank from your day to day account.

Not only will this help protect you from drawing down your account, but it makes printing one page statements easy and keeps your bank book clean.

The second thing, based on your demonstrated history, is to always buy a multi entry permit to protect your visa.
Ian *******
Ian *******
John Letaw and I have an extra couple of thousand baht in the account just in case somehow I get hit with something. Plus having a separate account makes it easier to show the account has not been touched.
John *******
John *******
Ian Whyte Yeah, the bank will slip some fee in when you are not looking, and put you below 800K. Smart to keep some extra in there

Most likely immigration will deny your extension in that case which means you will need to leave Thailand and start over with a new 90 day Non-O visa while out of the country

or return visa exempt and apply for the Non-O as he has the 800k ready for the extension
