Since covid extension is no more, I am going to be doing my first border run. I have never been to vietnam, so I was thinking of using this run as a holiday as well. I would like to get a thai visa while I'm in hanoi.

Is this all possible? Any recommendations or tips learned through experience that you guys could offer? Any random pitfalls that I might not be thinking of that I could prepare for?

If Vietnam really isnt a good place to do this, I am open to the other nearby countries. Basically, any advice is welcome. Thank you so much.

I thought they just announced they were doing visa extensions thru March 2023

isn't it the one saying that they'll prolong the period of visa exemption from 30days to 45? If so, that's a different story.

May I ask where did you see this information from?

Is there a source? Thanks in advance!

from what I read it is pretty impossible to get a long-term visa for Vietnam. This is a bit of a downer

What passport do you hold?

@Stuart ********
its a bilateral agreement, do Vietnam citizens also get visa-free entry into the US?
Stuart *********
@Riaan *********
That I don’t know. I do know that UK citizens get 15 days visa free entry into Vietnam. I suspect that doesn’t work the other way around.

@Stuart ********
yes, because UK does not want to give the same leeway to Vietnam citizens, BILATERAL, is the keyword

ah ok. You’re aware you’d need an evisa to enter there?

Curious. Is there no visa exemption for US passport holders? Cause for several European countries there is 15 days visa free entry into Vietnam.
Stuart *********
@Frank-Steven **********
not for US passport holders.

Might have something to do with history. Who knows.

Doubt it. Cause in some actual (and long term) visa categories they actually have it easier than European in Vietnam.

I believe you need an appointment there. Check the consulate's website for their requirements.
