TLDR : Answer Summary
A user applied for a Thai e-visa using an Australian bank account but was requested to provide bank statements in EUR or USD. Various community members suggested contacting the Australian bank for an official currency conversion letter or preparing a conversion explanation in advance, along with supporting documents like pay slips and tax returns. They discussed the complexities of providing bank statements in foreign currencies, particularly in relation to the requirements of the Thai embassy in France.

We would advise you as follows:

1. You can try contacting your bank in Australia and request an official letter confirming your account balance in EUR.

If you explain the situation clearly and have a good relationship with your bank, they might be able to issue the letter within a few days.

However, if you are using an online-only account or don’t have time to wait for the official letter (as it can sometimes take weeks), we recommend drafting a letter yourself. In the letter, explain to the Thai embassy staff that you are converting your balance to EUR using the exchange rate quoted on the Bank of Thailand’s official website.

You should also clarify why you are applying for the visa outside your home country (i.e., not in Australia), as this context may help make your application clearer to the embassy staff.

Additionally, prepare supporting documents that show the source of your income—such as payslips from the past six months or tax returns—to strengthen your case.

While this doesn’t guarantee visa approval, it will give you the best possible chance at this stage of the process.

If you're in France, why would they accept USD statements? That's ridiculous! If they're not going to accept AUD statements they shouldn't be accepting other foreign currencies either. No one accepts USD in France anyway.

because USD is the base currency for conversions. Pretty much all currencies is based on its value compared to the USD. Similar to the same reason that American English is the go to language between most countries.

Also, American English isn't the go to either, it's international English or British English actually.

Nonsense. This embassy is located in Europe, so they IF they choose to accept only EUR statements that's fine but they can't also accept USD statements. Also, Thailand uses the Baht, not USD.

Ask your Australian bank if they can generate a letter for you stating that the balance in AUD is equal to the value X in EUR. At consulates they always want to see something official, with a stamp and a signature.

If you apply at the Thai embassy, you can use either a French or Thai bank. Not Australia, because the embassy in France cannot check your Australian bank account.

Anonymous participant 852 embassys cannot check bank accounts without explicit authorisation (bank authorisation forms) which are not part of the application of any thai embassy that I have seen. Banks don't give out your bank balance or any other info just because someone asks

the Thai embassy in Paris is the worst in the world. So it's no surprise.
