TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a bank account in Thailand can be complex, especially for expats on a DTV visa. It's advisable to work with an agent familiar with local banks and their requirements, as individual branches may have different policies. Many users pointed out that nationality, including having a British passport, does not significantly influence the ability to open an account under these circumstances, and the restrictions tied to the visa type are more critical.

NO based on your DTV Visa. Your passport has no bearing on opening a Bank account

Currently, agents or even a law firm cannot help with opening a bank account.

Nope doesn’t matter if you’re British or not. You’re on a DTV

You're going to need an agent. The restrictions for opening a new account on dtv visa are difficult to meet. The last agent I talked to said owning a condo, property, married, and something else. I had an account before they started freezing and closing accounts and I had to bring in a lot of paperwork just to keep my account open ans unfreeze it. All the branches are different so using an agent that has already talked to many banks and branch locations might be able to consult you on what you need and let you know if you're qualified.

hi there, ive brought in documents to show account transactions, apartment lease, apartment blue book and landlord id, postpaid phone number matching my name, my foreign business details. What else did you have to show to have them unfreeze your account? Trying hard to see what else i can provide to keep my account 🙏🏼 hoping to hear from u, thanks!

They froze my account. i went in to withdraw my money and close the account. The bank told me I didn't need to close my account on a DTV visa but they needed to verify a few things. They wanted my lease, a letter from the gym I'm training at, bankbook, debit card and passport. Keep in mind every bank is different and every bank branch is different. My friend on the same DTV visa opened an account at the same bank but a different branch office and he couldn't get his account unlocked. They made him withdraw and close it. Your first step would be to go to the original bank office you opened the account and ask them if you need to close it.

I would just be straight forward with them when you walk in. Ask if you have to close the account or if there is something you can bring in to unlock the account and continue using it. Let them tell you yes or no. If it's yes they will just tell you what documents you need.
