Good evening. I have a 45 day exemption which expires on 23rd of April. Can I extend it for the extra 30 days now so that the 30 days will be extended on top of the 45 days (23 April)? The reason why I am asking is I will be returning to the UK and want to book a flight in advance at a better rate by extending it now I will know exactly how long I have remaining. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for an extension of your 45-day visa exemption, adding an additional 30 days to your stay. In major cities like Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai, applications can be submitted when there are 45 days or less remaining on your current exemption. However, in areas like Jomtien and Samui, you should apply during the last week before expiration. The added days will not affect your current expiration date, and denials for such applications are rare.
You can apply for extension when you have 30 days or less left on your existing visa exempt at most offices. So in another week or so.
In Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai you can apply when you have 45 days or less left, so you could apply now if you're in one of those places.
Chonburi/Jomtien and Samui only let you apply during your last week.
Regardless of when you apply, the 30 days will be added to the end of your stay and you won't lose any days. Also it's almost unheard of to be denied so you can book your flight just assuming you'll have your 30 extra days.
