How long can I stay in Thailand with just my US passport?
If I want to stay longer can I just cross the border into Cambodia then back to Thailand again? Will that reset my number of days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
With a US passport, you can enter Thailand under a Visa Exempt scheme which grants you a 60-day stay upon entry. This stay can be extended for an additional 30 days for a fee. After the initial 90 days, while you can leave and re-enter Thailand, doing so too frequently (like a border run to Cambodia) might lead to scrutiny by immigration, and potential denial of entry. For longer stays, an education visa is suggested as a more stable option.

You can consider an education visa, which is 15 months in the first year and can be renewed every year. You can get a graduation certificate, open a bank account for free, etc.

You might be better off working out how long you actually want to stay, then people can reccommend options for you. If you want to stay say 4-6 months or so, then your idea will likely be fine
Yes ) I agree! If not DTV visa for 5 years will work perfectly!

You will get a 60 day Visa Exempt stamp on entry which can be extensed once for a further 30 days (1`900B). You then have to leave but can re-enter to do the same again. If you tried this border-bounce a second time then you will most likely get grilled by Immigration at least and possibly denied entry.
