Hello everyone,

I have arrived in Phuket on a 45 day tourist visa less than a week ago. I hold an Australian passport.

On entering Thailand I had to prove I had a air ticket booked out. I have a ticket to Malaysia booked before the 45 day expiry.

I would like to extend this visa to an extra 30 days. My questions:

- Do I cancel my Malaysian flight and rebook another flight in that extra 30 day period before going to the office and applying?

- Can I go to the Phuket office now to apply for the extension or is it too early to go?

Thanking you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, holding an Australian passport, seeks advice on extending their 45-day tourist visa in Thailand. They inquire whether they should cancel their upcoming flight to Malaysia and if it's too early to apply for the extension at the Phuket immigration office. Responses suggest canceling the flight isn't necessary as immigration isn't concerned with the departure date right now, and it's typically advisable to apply for the extension when 30-45 days remain on the current visa.

If you booked with air Asia you can change your flight on the app and just pay the price difference.

I just did this last week with my flight to kuala Lumpur

Not sure what other airlines do this

Immigration won’t care when your departure flight is. Typically you’d apply when you have 30-45 days left on your current stamp, every office has its own rules, I’m not sure about Phuket. 30 days or less is generally typical.
