If anyone here holds a DTV visa and has already applied for the 180-day extension, could you please tell me how the procedure works?
Answer summary
Members of the community shared insights on extending a DTV visa in Thailand, particularly the Soft Power and Workcation categories. Key points include needing original documents, a bank balance of at least 500,000 baht for at least 30 days, and possibly a police clearance certificate. Procedures vary by location, with experiences noted in Bangkok and Udon Thani. Specific documentation requirements were discussed, including what to include and what may not be needed depending on the visa type.

The requirements to extend in Bangkok are published on Immigration Division 1’s website here (

I don’t know if there have been any changes to that since the 31st of August where they started requiring a criminal background check for DTV issuance.

Hi
@Yukari *****
I extended my DTV and I'm happy to help.

What type of DTV do you have? Workcation, Soft Power or Medical?

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything in detail.

I’ll prepare the documents you mentioned and go to apply for the extension.

Thank you again🙏

Oh sorry. I'm not sure for soft power. I extended a workcation.

But let me put the documents I needed:

- 01 picture 4x4

- Passport biopage

- Photocopy of all pages with visa stamp

- One-month bank statement showing the 500,000 baht + transactions proving how you live in Thailand

- (not required for Soft Power) Freelance work contract on which it’s clearly stated that you are allowed to work remotely outside of your country

- Copy of my lease agreement

- Photocopy of TM30

- Photocopy of the previous TM47

I have an acquaintance under soft power who extended in Bangkok.

She told me (I wasn't there) that basically, you removed the work contract / proof of employment.

Instead, she was asked:

- pictures of her doing Muay Thai;

- agreement of the gym (not sure of the name, but basically the document proving that the gym is recognized by the Government/Ministry... Something like that)

- acceptance letter to prove she bought the training.

Hope it helps 😇

It might be best if you let people know which office you intend to apply to, and then they can give you better information. For example, there have been posts about successful approvals in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Krabi, and Phuket. Less so in Chiang Mai

@Greg *******
a girl posted about a successful extension in Udon Thani. I don't think she realised she was only 1 hour from the Lao border :D

I’m planning to apply for the extension at Chaeng Watthana Immigration Office in Bangkok.

have a look through some of the posts in this group. I'm certain there have been more than one successful extension at that office. Good luck.

All original documents updated , bank balance minimum of 500k baht equivalent for a full 30 days before applying for extension. May need a police clearance certificate as it’s part of the new rules for applying for DTV. Easier to leave for a few days and return.

why the police clearance certificate if it's an extension approved before the new regulation?

I think the idea is immigration are not the greatest fans of the DTV visa. They have made extensions awkward and pretty much impossible in some jurisdictions. This could be another string to their bow.

Thanks, mine has just been approved, I will make sure to have the certificate once I'm back to my country

You bring up a very good point there about the police clearance. Will immigration ask for it? My own view is they will not. They don't ask for it from O-A retirement visa holders who have to show police clearance in their home country initially at extension time.
