Hi, I recently moved to Thailand and still trying to understand visa process, so bear with me :D
I came here in late December 2023 on a NON-B visa (90 days, issued from Thai embassy overseas). Shortly after arriving I came to a decision to resign. My child is currently in an international school in BKK, (we have applied for her NON-ed visa, hopefully will get it next week), so I am thinking to convert from Non-b to non-o as a guardian of my child. My employer says this is impossible and that I have to use their agency service to get visa conversion which will cost a lot for me. I have checked immigration division 1 website and seems like I do not need agency service and can apply just myself.
Also employer is saying my 90 day visa will be cancelled along with my work permit. As far as I understood employer can not just walk in to immigration office and cancel my visa as it is not an extension of stay. Am I wrong?
Any advice on how I should proceed? I am very much confused right now.
TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking guidance on converting their NON-B visa into a NON-O visa in Thailand as the guardian of their child, who is attending an international school. They express confusion about the visa process, stating that their employer insists they must use an agency service for the conversion and that their current visa would be canceled alongside their work permit. Community members clarify that the user can apply for the visa themselves, that their visa cannot be canceled by the employer, and provide detailed steps and documentation needed for applying for the guardian visa.
