Hello, I asked Immigration office today about changing my exemption visa to Guardian visa, and they told me that I need to change to Non-O visa first. But as I’m not married to a Thai nor not yet 50 years old yet, how can I change it to Non-O? Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about changing their exemption visa to a guardian visa but learns from the immigration office that a Non-O visa is required first. Since they are not married to a Thai citizen and are under 50 years old, they seek advice on how to make this change. Community comments clarify that obtaining a Non-O visa is necessary for a guardian visa, and although requirements may vary by location (like in Phuket), transitioning from an exemption visa to a Non-O can be complicated.

Might be office dependent but certainly in Phuket they won’t issue a non O based on being a guardian. If you have a non O visa based on being a guardian you can get an extension off it as long as you meet the requirements. If you had another non O and had an extension off of that then when it’s time to renew you could switch to being a guardian. No idea why this policy exists.
