I am on Work Permit and Non-B VISA and wish to convert to ED/Guardian. I will cancel my work Permit. Do I need to exit the country or can I do the conversion within the Kingdom. I have all the necessary paperwork.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is looking to convert their Non-B Visa, currently on a Work Permit, to an ED/Guardian visa without exiting Thailand. They have the necessary paperwork ready. The discussion highlights that the process may involve cancelling the work permit, obtaining termination paperwork, and applying for a new yearly extension based on being a guardian of a foreign child enrolled in school. It is advised to visit the immigration office beforehand to understand the requirements and confirm the conversion process.

Example of a year "extension of stay" based on employment <- NOT a visa

I will go with the premise you're not on ANY Non-B VISA and instead on a stamp that says "Extension of Stay Permitted Until" and has a date next to it because that's the ONLY way you can get any of this to work.

You would cancel your work permit, get termination paperwork from your employer, go to the immigration office cancel the current extension based on employment and then apply for a new yearly extension based on being a parent raising a foreign child enrolled in a school on an ED visa. You'd show 500K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 30 days before you'd apply for the year extension.

That "foreign parent of a foreign child on an ED visa/extension" is a paperwork HEAVY extension for you to get and I'd go to the immigration office well before you do this "change the reason of extension from employment to guardian" to both check it can be done AND to get the documentation requirements for it

Now on the extremely RARE chance you are on an actual Non-B VISA (as opposed to a yearly extension of stay)

NO

You can't switch in country, you have to exit get OFF that visa and either get the non-O visa based on raising a foreign child at a thai consulate nearby OR come in FREE stamp entry (visa exempt) and then apply for first the initial 90 day Non-O visa for 2000baht based on being the foreign parent of a child enrolled in school on an ED visa, wait the review period, go back get the Non-O visa and 90 day stamp inked in, then wait until you have 30 days or less left on that 90 day stamp then go back and apply for the year extension for 1900baht
