I came in on a non-0 based on marriage, but when I went for ext in ‘24 they (Chom Thien) suggested I shift to retirement (had embassy affidavit showing enough income for this). Less paperwork for all of us is my guess for the reasoning behind this?

Why change ext based on marriage is pretty simple.

I can only speak for my own experiences. Next week I'll be applying for my twentieth marriage visa extension. I have never had the slightest problem with the previous nineteen.

Jomtien throughout..

retirement is much easier if money is not a issue, in my opinion.

not in jomtien . Only finding a witness ( like stealing a friend’s time for immigration purposes ) is a bridge to far for me. Let alone being unable to travel, while waiting for an immigration visit, twice. Bangkok is not giving these grievances.

some offices make marriage extensions a real dog-n-pony show by nit picking documentation, requiring witness, PLUS you get the under consideration stamp, possible home visit before you go back to get the year extension inked in

Retirement extension is definitely an easier extension to do

yep, that's the problem with 80+ offices that don't do the same thing 😮 some places the applications skate right thru, other places they really seem to go out of their way to make it hard for people

definitely GO and talk to the immigration office at Jomtien because they may require you to have the 400K in the bank the whole time until you get it back to 800K baht 2 months before your next extension.

Also keep in mind if you were on retirement extension, switched to marriage extension many offices won't let you switch back to retirement again.

You have to exit the country get a new Non-O visa and start all over. 😕

Their reasoning is they let you chance the reason once, they're not gonna let you do it twice 😮

i already had to go to laos for a new non o when i changed to marriage.. things where pretty straightforward in Bangkok. But here in jomtien is a big joke. The money requirements will be ok. When i went for my extension, they asked for extra paperwork. When bringing in the extra paperwork, they complained about the pictures being selfies, when bringing in the new pictures, the house number was not clear enough. … Then I could not travel around because they wanted to visit. Having to have a witness present on short notice…. Now they say they will come visit again in one or two months…. I tried to ask them for information about changing visa , but needed a queue ticket again…. As I queued already 4 or 5 times for my extension, I didn’t bother anymore…. Wishing I could go back to Bangkok for extending my visa. Thank you Tod !

I have found Jomtien pretty cooperative and helpful. I don't know about what extra paperwork you needed but they give you a list of what is required when you go to the front desk.

The guys from immigration called yesterday and let us know they were coming today between 8 and 9 am to see us. They were here at 8:30 took a couple of photos and we're on there way within 10-15 minutes.

They have only ever been to see me at application time.

ahh, you'll be fine then switching from this current marriage extension to one based on retirement next time you apply for your yearly extension. They won't give you any grief about it at all

Best of luck with it (y)

fyi Here in Pai I asked about changing from a non-O retirement extension to a marriage extension as I just married my partner last month . They couldn’t have been nicer about it . Wouldn’t have to leave the country as well . I would need a witness and of course they do come out to the residence once a year per normal . I was just enquiring for possibly next time but just renewed my retirement extension 2 days ago . Flawless

yep, usually no issue at all changing the reason for a yearly extension, you just do it when your next extension is due by meeting the requirements for the new extension you're applying for
