How can a US citizen extend their stay in Thailand after the initial 30 days?
Greetings everyone, I’m a U S citizen and I would like to extend my visit in Thailand longer. I’m currently in Chiang Mai and my 30 days will be up on the 4/30. My question is what’s the best way to go about staying longer in Thailand? Should I apply for 30 more days and will I be able to visit other Southeast Asia countries and apply for a tourist visa if I wanted to revisit again ? Thank you in advance.

If you're in Chiang Mai you can go to either the main immigration office by the airport OR the satellite immigration office in Central Festival Mall and apply for a 30 day extension on your free 30 day entry stamp for 1900baht.
There is no need to wait until your stamp is expiring because they will add the 30 day extension to the expiration date.
This is a list of what is typically required to get a 30 day extension on an free entry stamp. In Chiang Mai they DO want proof where you stayed filed a TM30 on you (notification of foreigner in residence) so ask your hotel to print it out for you
