What is the purpose of the new immigration form for extending visas in Chiang Mai?

New form to fill out for all my people coming to Chiang Mai Immigration. This one basically says “Yes, I know I’m covered but I want to extend anyway.” This is a piece of paperwork that I don’t mind including as it rather eliminates some doubt when I explain to people/skeptics.

I don’t think they will change the announcement date on the form as the new (upcoming but unpublished) extension is a continuation of the original announcement. I didn’t write the form, so I don’t know. If it changes, so will the attachment.

But, this baby needs to be in your packet for any extension or renewal packet you submit for ANY visa type. Don’t forget it. But, if you are screened by a friendly volunteer at the door, we will include it for you.

Be well!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A new form is required for individuals seeking to extend their visas in Chiang Mai, Thailand, which indicates their awareness of coverage under current regulations yet their desire to extend nonetheless. The form serves as a precautionary measure to protect immigration officials from potential complaints about unnecessary fees for extensions. The conversation reveals mixed opinions on the necessity and implications of the form, with some questioning its purpose amidst existing amnesty provisions while others view it as a protective measure for both expats and the immigration office.

The amount of people who seemed to be challenged by the existence of a win-win document that not only covers immigration from people being upset for spending money they didn’t need to spend, and actually informs people they don’t need to spend the money in the first place is really baffling 🤦🏻‍♂️

I agree. I once went to get an extension on my METV because I wanted to go to the islands for a 3 months and an agent came out to personally ask if I knew that I didn't need an extension because I already had another month on my option to stay, so I didn't need to spend the money. They were just being thoughtful.

Sorry Mike I do not understand ? We have to come before April 30 to sign this paper to extend what they will automatically extend ? Can you please be more specific ...I was supposed to come back on April 17 for the two more weeks ...and anyway I paid on March 30 1900 bht ( plus consul letter )

What does mean « covered «

Thank you to confirm if I am concerned by this as I live in numphrae 😊or shall I wait for official gazette of July 31 free extension

If anyone comes in from today forward, they will have the extension explained, the exemption explained, and then be asked to sign this. It’s just another acknowledgement form. No need to come in and sign anything!

I think it's crap

Define ‘it’s’.

The cynic in me says that this is a way to keep earning 1900b, every 30 days, for unnecessary extensions. I thought the whole idea was to keep people out of the immigration offices.

Why would you do that if you are on a tourist visa or similar, with an effective stamp of

...After some thought, I now understand. This is not a deterrent. It is a cover-my-@$$ document for them. We told you that you don't have to extend or pay, but if you insist on it for your own peace of mind, then we will process your app and fee. By signing this, you acknowledge you were not misled or coerced...therefore you have no recourse against us as it was you who elected to proceed, although we advised you it is not necessary.

If you read this, you’ll see this form is a DETERRENT from unneeded extensions.

Hi. Forgive my stupidity here.

Etihad have cancelled my flight 6 times. I am due to rebook my flight again today, it looking like June now that I will fly. My tourist covid 19 visa extension is until may 7. Will I need to go to immigration again?
Freddie **********
So for those of us "under consideration", would eventually need the "final" stamp to leave the country?
Jefrey *****
OK cheers

No sir, unless you want to get your last 10-day stamp.

Maybe this was meant for people who needed more time post the initial April 30 amnesty?

@Graham ********
It’s meant to let everyone who wants to extend in CM that there is amnesty available. It’s a deterrent from...well, having to spend an unnecessary 1900THB.
Marguyvin **********
Is there any reason they are providing this? It seems to cast doubt on whoever might believe they are covered. What is the point of the amnesty if you have to cover yourself anyway with this??? Or is this for folks who are.on the cusp of the amnesty date?

What doubt? It says even though you know you are covered, you need to extend anyway. It’s meant to keep people that don’t need to extend from doing so.
