Can I apply for a visa extension in Thailand without my husband present, and how will the extension affect my current visa expiration date?

Hello all! First, the Chiang Mai Immigration volunteers are amazing and extremely helpful. Thankful for them.

I am in on the visa exemption (on arrival, 45 days). I’ve already applied and gotten the 1st covid extension of 30 days...good until April 30th.

I went today to get the 2nd covid extension (before it potentially expires). I was given a consideration stamp and appointment for April 9th. I was told that I could come back then and get a 45 day extension. I was told that I could bring my husbands without him (even though the stamp in the passport says “in person”).

Questions:

1. Is it true that I can just take our passports without him and get the extension?

2. The 45 days will be added to my April 30th date correct?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Thailand on a visa exemption and has received an initial 30-day extension due to Covid. They are seeking clarification on the possibility of obtaining a second extension without their husband present and how this extension will impact their current visa expiration date.

This post is starting to get sidetracked about what exactly is stamped in the passport, which I don’t think is relevant. I believe the op has the answers.

Hi, I am happy for you though I am trying to make sense of it all. As mentioned your first 30 days extra where not under Covid, they are the normal given tourist extension.

I am wondering how you received a 30 day extension today March 29 that brings you to April 30 which is 33 days days instead of 30, and then can also apply right-away for the Covid on top ..

And regarding 1st time Covid extension. In general the first 60 day Covid extension gets stamped from day of application not from day of current expiry date stamp ..

I’m thinking after reading the post that she got the first 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, and was added on to the existing stamp

A person can not get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 the same day as applying for a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism. The 30 day extension of stay based on tourism is given automatically. The 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is technically an optional extension and there are reports of people being verbally denied, or the immediate officer wanting to see flights home.

yep indeed. The thing I am wondering is how can she be extended already to April 30? That's 33 days from today ..

sadly, for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19, she can’t.

i know, seems you keep missing the point I am trying to make .. The opp states she applied for an extension and is stamped in till April 30! Thats 33 days from now .. how is that possible?

I assume the 30 days is a normal extension, not a Covid extension so simply gets added to existing date, could have applied some time ago. I'm confused though about the additional 60 day Covid extension which appears not to be 60 days, I thought that started on the date of application

So I think that she applied for the 60 day Covid extension some days ago giving 15 + 45. It won't be added to the 30 April stamp in my view

if she has a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism, it is added to the current stamp - it does not start the day you apply.

If you entered Thailand on visa exempt and get 30days extension, it's not covid extension, it's normal 30days tourist extension. This 60days extension you just applied is your first Covid extension.

You need to ask immigration office. If your extension is add to your current days, it has to be 60days to add. And I wonder if Immgration office really would set under consideration (when it is included to the extension days) and rest of extension "apart", never read that kind of report.

Sorry I was on the amnesty. This is my third time applying. It could be different for you. I was previously on an education visa before the amnesty

@Bill ******
were you on tourist status and applied first covid extension?

I asked today in Chiang mai and was told the days would be added to my April 29 date.

Just to clarify: the 45 days will not start on my appointment date of April 9 but be added to my current extension date of April 30th?
