TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses how DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) holders in Thailand are managing rent payments amidst recent restrictions on Thai bank accounts. Many participants share that they are using cash or platforms like Wise for international transfers. Some express frustration over the difficulty of obtaining a Thai bank account and suggest that people adapt to alternative solutions, including paying through services like Wise and handling cash transactions. There are mixed reports about the status of bank accounts for DTV holders, with some individuals stating that their accounts remain active while others have faced closures, particularly due to compliance measures.

I have a tourist visa. I have a thai bank account, even 2! Nothing was closed. Where did you hear that from? Those who managed to get an account use it for several years. 😆

It was all the time hard to get a bank account in Thailand bc normally they do not speak English at the branches, I opened my first account 25 years ago on 30 day trip, over the last 15 years I had accounts in 7 different banks. All the DTV holders incapable to solve things in Thailand. You can still get bank accounts but you have to put efforts in it. Thailand is not a country for people who start whining and complaining when a problem pop up. Just solve it. Dress nice, go to bank tell them you want to open a account and don't give up, ask for the manager if they tell you you can't. Then go to the next branch if it not works. In Thailand you get everything but here in the group the biggest problem is tm30 or 90 days report what is in reality zero important for a dtv holder. Same like doing visas for kids under 14 years old.

Анонимный участник 658 They do not block accounts for DTV and other visa holders, they can block only if you are unlucky, or you have suspicious transactions, participation in crypto exchanges

Anonymous participant 658 A number of people have had their accounts frozen or closed, and it seems new accounts for DTV holders are impossible to get.

I use WISE to send money to a WISE account of a thai bankaccount holder. I think its the cheapest way right now for me. Only pay WISE fees.

@Oli ******
you mean to say: first you convert something to baht in your Wise and then sending to another Thai bank, right?

Anonymous participant 413 you don't have to convert first or maintain any money in a wise account. You can do a direct bank to bank transfer and convert all in one step using wise.

Ok never tried that. Do you save any "conversion fees" or is it the same amount you get at the end?

they still have their fee but don't call it a conversion fee. Not sure if one saves any money, but it is at least fewer steps. I don't trust wise enough to actually maintain any balance since they are not FDIC insured (or UKs equivalent either). Below is a screenshot of my last transfer fee and rate.

So you pay overall 0.8% "fee". This is better then any other way I now. THANKS!

Yes. Takes one day to see the money on the thai bank account . Then you can withdraw it without ATM fees.

You can transfer to a Thai bank from any country.

Or you can give them cash. Some landlords even take crypto payments.

Wise- never understood why people want a Thai bank account other than QR payment which seems like such a minor thing considering you can tap pretty much everywhere.

Thanks for the answers, all.

Cash is the obvious answer, but because of withdrawal limits, that would require multiple ATM transactions. As I suspected, Wise would be the best non-cash option, which I prefer.

A. Nony Mous I’ve found that the atm that is used for deposits outside a bank does withdrawals as well. It’s runs a bit slower but I can normally withdraw 100,000baht at a time and still only 220baht fee. Hope this helps.
