Hi all!

For walk in embassies, anybody has seen a rejection after they accepted your documents, checked them and collected your passport as well as your fee payment?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Some expats have reported that embassies in Vientiane and Savannakhet have rejected visa applications even after accepting documents and payment. However, these consulates refund the application fee upon rejection when individuals return to pick up their passports.

Vientiane AND Savannakhet have rejected peoples' applications after they turned in the paperwork and paid the fee.

The good thing is at those consulates IF they rejected people, when you went back to pick up your passport they refunded the 10K baht fee 🙂

The disclaimer is on every embassy notice, but in practice, they may not do that. Unless you're aware of someone who applied in Indonesia, paid, had his visa denied and wasn't given a refund. So far, I have not heard of this happening anywhere except the online e-visa platform.

Each consulate is different, but in practice, embassies and consulates that still allow in person applications generally won't take your money unless you've been approved (or conversely will refund it if you're denied).

This is now changing with the e-visa system.

I am just talking about Jakarta Indonesia embassy

Only if they don't refund the money if your application is unsuccessful. Laos does in fact refund your money if you don't get your visa.

I applied in Indonesia Jakarta they specifically said on contract you sign that if you are denied you will not get refund

says that in Vientiane and Savannakhet too, and everyone who was denied got a refund..

Now once consulates go to eVisa that's a different ball game, you get rejected you lose the money and pay again to apply there is no "do overs" on the eVisa system

I wonder why they don't check your documents first and ask you to come back to make payment only if they're accepted as is done in Taiwan.

they do a rough check of the documents in Vientiane/Savannakhet but they had a HUGE problem of people turning in fake bank documents so now they vet them a little better (sometimes making you log in to your account and show the balance when you apply) and I think not really all that many people are rejected/refunded up there in the grand scheme of things
