What can I expect during the visa application process at the Thai Embassy in Vientiane?

Currently in Vientiane, Laos for a 3 months Non-Imm O Visa (based on raising my Thai son), booked my appointment a month ago obtaining que #5, arrived at the Embassy at 8:30am to a line of about 25 people, when the main gate 'eventually' opened at 9:08am the que had grown to about 50+. I was sent to 'window 3' where I was greeted by the apparently notorious "Visa denied bitch", who upon inspecting my paperwork asked if I had a Thai bank account, I told her 'Yes, that's where I transfer my monthly income from England to", she then told me I need a photocopy of my bank book, I categorically told her "In the last FOUR+ years of obtaining this visa I have never been asked for my bank detail BECAUSE this Visa doesn't require it", not only that but I didn't have my bank book with me anyhow. She accepted my 'explanation' and took my application without further problems. Walked out the main gate at 9:30am & headed back to my hotel a 30 minute walk away. By asking me for my bank details for a Visa that doesn't require it, either SHE doesn't know her job properly or she's 'testing' ME to see if I know what paperwork I need. Oh well, I'll find out tomorrow if I've been denied or not ;-)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user shares their experience applying for a Non-Immigrant O Visa at the Thai Embassy in Vientiane, Laos. They describe the long wait and a challenging interaction with a specific embassy staff member regarding documentation, specifically the request for a Thai bank account photocopy, which they believed was unnecessary for their visa category. The comments reflect others' experiences and frustrations with the application process and the potential for additional document requests.

i think it is time to close the commenting. I understand it is not nice to be asked for additional documents when you apply for a visa. It is mentioned on their website and on the website of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs that additional documents can be asked. And as we all know; Results of the past are no guarantee for the future.

I was asked to show 200k a month ago. Plenty of reports here.

I've heard Cambodia is a right no no

I did read, that. I don't fancy going to Laos next month on a maybe. I am asking if anywhere else issues this with no requirements. Myanmar, Cambodia maybe?

Thanks for the correction, but that just makes it even less viable for me, at least until Brexit is sorted out & the pound starts gaining some ground again ;-)

Yeah, I wish I could, but presently that isn't financially viable for my to 'seed' 200k (I believe) in my bank account every year in order to obtain that yearly extension

Does anyone know of any consulates or embassies in the region giving 90 day non o child dependency with no financials?
Tony ********
If they've taken the passport, you'll get the visa. So now you need to find a way to extend it 12 months. Same as my boat :-)

Doesnt it state you have to have sufficiant funds? I've also had many non o's and was really lucky to blag my lack of bank book. Soon no more back to back non o's either. Times are a changing.

My 48 page passport is 4yrs old, it is full of Non-Imm O Visa's, & this is the first time I've ever been asked about my bank details, THIS Visa doesn't require it and I told her so ;-)

Generally if they accept your application your good to go
