TLDR : Answer Summary
The ongoing border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is primarily affecting the areas close to the border, specifically regions like Sisaket and Trat. Most travelers to Thailand, especially those heading to popular destinations further away from the conflict zone (like Phuket and Pattaya), are not currently facing significant travel disruptions. While there have been evacuations and concerns about safety close to the conflict zones, the situation is largely localized, and travelers are advised to stay clear of the border areas. General travel throughout Thailand remains safe at the moment.

All flights grounded due to fear of Cambodian missile attacks against civilian aircraft.

It is sad that people have been killed.

I have a trip booked from Bangkok to Phnom Penh this weekend.

IMO, there are 90 million people between the two countries, the odds of me being affected are about the same odds as me facing danger in my everyday life.

Don’t let it bother you, you will have a blast

I thank everyone for responding to my question. 🙏

My GF is in Sis Sa Ket they have been evacuated from their homes. Been told to expect missile strikes tonight. Everyone in fear for their lives so it’s not trivial border skirmishes for those in the firing line.

The conflict is escalating along the border. There’s a new open frontline in Trat province.

Fighting has been reported in Sa Kaeo province.

Cambodia has artillery able to strike 130 kilometres from the border inside the Thai territory.

If you want to be far from it all, head down south to Phuket, krabi, satun..... over 1000km away!
Namthip ************
Nope, anywhere a lil further from the border of Thailand and Cambodia is still safe. Phuket, Pattaya, Huahin, Samui, and all the southern parts of Thailand are safe to travel.
Mike *******
Yes, lots.

No (as long as you’re not travelling travelling to the combat zones or attempting to cross the border into Cambodia).

@Erik ******
The poster did not ask whether Erik would travel to Koh Kood. He asked whether travel to and around Thailand was affected, which I addressed (for the time being, travel to Koh Kood is unaffected). Have a blessed day.

It seems like a alot of people never reads the op.

No

I wouldn’t be going to Koh kood right now. Cambodia is definitely not in agreement that the island is Thai.

Some stray shells hit Laos this morning in their south.

@Shaughn **********
Shells going in that direction is imo no biggie.😎

your opinion is asinine.

It's no war,it's a border conflict. There's a huge difference and nothing to worry about.
Frank **********
@Max ************
F-16 jets flying into Cambodia is a little bit more then a border conflict.
Max *************
@Erik ******
Do you live in Thailand? I do.This conflict has been going on for years. Don't post stuff about things you obviously don't understand.
Peter ***********
@Erik ******
As I understand it, there have been 12 deaths in Thailand due to this "war" - which is around 53 deaths LESS than the daily road toll in Thailand, which the authorities don't give two shits about, provided the police are still getting their bribes
Jo **********
@Max ************
12 Thai people died

@Jo *********
Do you understand how many Thais die on the roads every year? Let’s keep this in perspective!
Jo **********
true

So,and that makes it a war? Grow up.In Ukraine there's a war going on. It's officially a war when two countries declare war against each other.
Chris ******
@Max ************
in Ukraine it's a special operation according to pukin it thought it was going to take Ukraine in 3 days 3 years later still bombing each other great special operation to denazify the country 🤣
Jo **********
@Max ************
you say nothing to worry about these are Thai people - be considerate
Andrew *******
@Jo *********
There’s nothing to worry about for tourists who aren’t heading within 50km of the Cambodian border. You know that’s the context of the question. And your “show some respect” comment is asinine in that context and typical of those called out who instead of acknowledging they’ve been called out clamour for the moral high ground.

Try being an adult.
Jo **********
@Andrew ******
this is not related to maturity but social respect for the Thai people
Andrew *******
@Jo *********
Thanks for making my point.

It’s very sad that those Thai and Cambodian people have died.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the question asked by the OP. You know that. But sure, you are the guardian of moral virtue on here. 🙂

When someone asks how to get to Pattaya from Bangkok do you respond with “The roads are dangerous, 60 Thai people died on the roads yesterday, show some respect!” or do you just tell them you can drive it in about 2 hours?

@Jo *********
No-one goes to Isaan for their holidays! 😂😂😂
Chris ******
@Peter ********
issan area better than places like Pattaya
Peter ***********
@Chris *****
That's your opinion alone. So more international tourists go to Buriram than what go to Pattaya?
Chris ******
@Peter ********
you be surprised at how many travel around that area it's just the sad old men that want a young girl sit around Pattaya for their holidays
Andrew *******
@Chris *****
Again you might need to broaden your horizons champ.
Chris ******
@Andrew ******
travelled all over Thailand Vietnam Laos Cambodia on motorbike I don't sit around typical tourist areas with young bar girls there are many places that have bars with bar girl prostitutes for the needy of a young girl to fulfill their fantasies it goes on all over country don't need go Thailand for that sort of thing prostitution is the oldest trade in the world probably happens in your town village where you come from you probably just don't see it openly I knew a girl in England that was a prostitute I only found out after I asked her why a single female would buy the daily sport her number was in there circled advertising as a masseur
Peter ***********
@Chris *****
I haven't been to Pattaya for over ten years but I assume it's still the same. But yes, dirty old men go to Pattaya to get young women (mostly rice farmers daughters from Isaan), but places like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, Phuket, Samui are real tourist destinations. However you try to spin it, Buriram is not a tourist destination. Furthermore, Buriram only became part of Thailand less than a century ago. Historically it's Cambodia, so why doesn't Thailand give this huge rice paddock back to its traditional owners?
Chris ******
@Peter ********
you obviously haven't been to buriram area there is a lot more to see than just farming villages and fields I'm guessing you are more for Cambodia than Thailand with that response I'm just a foreigner in Thailand just as I would be in Cambodia what ever their political land areas is between them who am I or you to say otherwise I am assuming you are a foreigner in the country or just giving your opinion from where ever you are located
Peter ***********
@Chris *****
I have been to Buriram - certainly not the sort of place I'd put on a "must do" list for a tourist. I actually live in Thailand - and I mean REAL Thailand, not this place called Isaan, which is essentially Cambodia and Laos annexes. Time to give it back. Its main industry is a perpetual supply of prossies for the bars of Pattaya and Patong
Chris ******
@Peter ********
I live in Thailand the political issue is between Thailand and Cambodia who are we as guests staying in the country to argue otherwise how they do their business as for the supply of pressies if foreigners never used them then they would go elsewhere prostitution has been around for many years as for Pattaya it became more popular when the girls there were being used by fisherman then soldiers went there for relaxation during Vietnam war it went crazy after that building in to what it is now
Andrew *******
@Chris *****
Amusingly a Thai business associate of mine has a Gik who is from Buriram who makes a ton of money from a short time hotel she’s built in Buriram to cater to exactly what you seem to think only goes on in Pattaya :)

But you’d know that given your expertise in all things Isaan and Buriram I guess :)
Andrew *******
@Chris *****
Subjective. Parts of Isaan are ok and much of Isaan is pretty poor and dire for an actual holiday or to live. Also there are areas in and around Pattaya that are nice, including some very decent places to stay. Which is why so many Thais stay there. Of course if you are knee deep with cheap Charlies in Soi 6 that’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea.

But perhaps broaden your mind rather than spitting out contextless drivel?
Max *************
@Jo *********
Did you read the opening post? This conflict doesn't affect people in other areas. GET IT?
Chris ******
@Max ************
people have been evacuated from the border areas how does that not affect people innocent civilians have died even Laos border has been hit because Cambodia couldn't fire in the right direction
Max *************
@Chris *****
This post is not about areas close to the border. Maybe you missed that. Read it again. It's still officially a border conflict.
Chris ******
@Max ************
think you missed something unless the news are just saying people have been evacuated for a day out to avoid being bombed by Cambodia

Not unless you're planning to travel to the border region with Cambodia.
