What are the current conditions at the Thai-Cambodia border checkpoints in Chanthaburi?

Both Thai-Cambodia Border Checkpoints in Chanthaburi Province Closed — Say goodbye (for now) to border bouncers. These crossings were easy targets for border-run agencies, But with all land borders to Myanmar and Cambodia now shut, options are drying up fast. Only a few Laos crossings remain open, and even those especially Nong Khai have tightened significantly. If you're in Thailand relying on border runs to reset your stay, consider this a serious warning

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai-Cambodia border checkpoints in Chanthaburi province are currently closed due to heightened tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. With land borders to Myanmar and Cambodia shut, options for expats relying on border runs to reset their visas are limited. While some suggest flying to neighboring countries for breaks, others report mixed experiences and confusion regarding the status of border operations. Updates indicate that although advisories were issued regarding closures effective June 3, there are conflicting reports, and some individuals have successfully crossed borders. The situation remains fluid, with potential for martial law and evolving restrictions, prompting many to advise caution and alternative travel plans.

Martial law is coming soon in Thailand !!

This is incorrect. It was reported that thiss was happenuing 'effective June 3rd', then, typically Thai, a further update was issued on June 1st or 2nd, that the above was a 'misunderstanding', and the borders would continue to operate normally. Which they have - I came over to CambodiA on 4th, and there were no issues at all. so disregard the post above.

It's changing all the time. Now you've two closed borders and restricted entry/exit time on some others. It seems they are getting ready for even more:

My Laos run wasn't a good experience at all. I had to go twice, and both times were horrible. Thailand and Cambodia are having issues at the moment.

The best is to avoid the whole border... The situation is constantly evolving. What's valid now may change within minutes.
Dos ***********
The reason why they closed is because of tension on the borders between Thailand and Cambodia which you can find those stories in the news these days. Nothing to do with DTV or border-run.

I didn’t say it was. My point being is that there are no longer any options for visa bouncers living on visa exemptions

They’re not tightening because of border run.

Poipet is still open

I crossed over today. Into Cambodia with my car. I asked them in the morning and the Thai customs agent denied anything was out of the ordinary.
Paul *******
@Jordan ****
They closed at 4pm. Apparently, tomorrow they'll reopen with very restrictive crossing hours.

@Paul ******
I find it fascinating that they closed the border without even warning their own citizens working in Poipet who now have to spend the night in Cambodia
James ********
@Jordan ****
AVOID POIPET BORDER CROSSING. It's a problem for foreigners.

@James *******
crossed 20 times, no problem

I was just at the Ban Pakkad border on June 6. Where is this letter from? Where was it posted?

What’s going to happen to those who are waiting for DTV in Cambodia? With this situation, any possibility on the embassy closing down? Sigh
Greg ********
@May **********
In 2003 the Cambodians rioted and burned down the Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh over some Thai actress claiming Angkor Wat was Thai (She never said it - the storey was planted by Khmer Nationalists). The Thi ambassador had to climb over the wall to escape. :-)

@May **********
they will travel home through Poipet.
Paul *******
@Jordan ****
Which I will be doing soon. Unfortunately, looks like border opening hours will be heavily restricted. Opening hours 8am to 4pm only.
James ********
@Jordan ****
not likely a POIPET is known as problematic for foreigners..... Best to fly.
Jordan *****
@James *******
crossed Poipet 20 times no problem

Just fly somewhere nice for a weekend break, so much more civilized than some doggy border crossing, not surprised they are tightening up those.
Matt *******
@John ********
flying In after doing multiple back to back border bounces are a good way to get rejected at immigration.
John *********
@Matt ******
no, if you have a dtv, you can come and go as you like

@Matt ******
that's what I was referring to dtv holders maybe do a weekend away before 180 days are up,by flying somewhere nice for a short break, not doing a land crossing.
