TLDR : Answer Summary
The term 'Trade Finance Deposit' in your bank statement typically indicates an international deposit, especially as confirmed by several commenters who noted that this is standard wording used by Kasikorn Bank for international transfers. It is advised to request a Credit Advice from Kasikorn to verify the source of funds. Furthermore, recent discussions suggest that deposits made through Wise may not distinctly show as international due to specific transactional procedures, and it might be beneficial to keep transaction receipts for reference.

To have a wise transfer shown as an international payment there is a process to follow:

1. Your domestic bank to your Wise account (this will be the account that uses your domestic currency such as GBP/Euro/USD).

2. Wise account to Thailand account.

3. During this process you need to select the appropriate transaction options from the drop down menu (i.e. purchase property) and write an appropriate reference in the free text box (property details/visa details and so on).

Any other method using Wise is akin to a simple currency exchange process and cannot be shown as international as the precise routing isn't defined although you will be able to see which Thai bank converted the funds to Thai baht.

that’s exactly how it previously worked for many years. Now the same process produces a different result which is what everyone is complaining about. Now it doesn’t code as an international transfer in the receiving Thai bank.

Trade Finance

If you request your account statement in Thai it will be ธุรกรรมต่างประเทศ and not trade finance. And this means in correct translation international transfer

Following the news about WISE transfers from abroad, I have noticed more and more people complain that the transfer doesn't show as coming from abroad any more, despite choosing the correct "reason" on the WISE website ("funds for longterm stay in Thailand" or "property purchase"). I reckon everybody should discontinue using WISE and do a direct SWIFT transfer from your home bank to your Thai bank account

If the payment is not done via the Wise account it will never be shown as an international payment. Funds must first be deposited into a Wise account before any onward transmission otherwise any other transaction is just a currency transfer.

if you wish to get your transfer coded as coming in from abroad 100%-ish, then you must use a direct SWIFT transfer from your home bank to the Thai bank account

WISE use their Kasikorn account for the last step, so unless you haven't choosen a specific purpose, the last step in your bankbook will show an inner-Thailand transfer

I use a US government direct deposit into Bangkok Bank. The code change a few months ago from “foreign T/T” to “PROMPTPAY”.

My visa paperwork is not due for a few more months. Hopefully, immigration has it figured out by then.

that's a great idea but the fees are so high! this month I've done both a wise transfer and a swift transfer in the Swift transfer cost me over 3%, more than the wise transfer in fees. outside of the joy of enriching Chase Manhattan Bank, there is not a lot of reward to moving to the Swift transfer. if each and every $65,000 baht incurs an additional three to four percent in fees, not to mention the additional work it takes to ensuring a monthly transfer occurs and has the correct notation acceptable to Thai immigration. I think it's better to keep the 800,000 in the Thai bank account than to do the $65,000 monthly transfer!

already tested SWIFT from Chase Bank US to Bangkok Bank

2 days ago. It shows up as BAHTNET. No clear indication that it is from a foreign source either.

Well those who are so helpless they need an agent to do everything for them have every reason to panic. But I was referring to regular honest people

changes, create questions. I would say the fact that there are no definitive answers at this point does not make foreigners necessarily helpless..

I don’t know about panic. But there is some concern that immigration may not like/accept that Bangkok Bank has changed the labeling of incoming transfers.

I do the extensions myself and will just have to wait and see how it all pans out at the next extension renewal.

Seems I have more of a clue than what you do. Bangkok Bank hasn't changed anything, it's simply how Wise routes the payment. My transfers show as international. If for any reason it shows as domestic you simply get the international transfer advice form from the bank to whom the payment was sent. I know others who have done this. Some people find solutions, others like yourself prefer to simply complain.

Ask Kasikorn for a copy of the Credit Advice. That will show the source of funds.

Kasikorn told me this Wise baht to baht transfer isn't a foreign transfer. It's classed as local transfer. I already asked them for credit note
