Vientiane does not have any available times until April 12. I've heard there is another Thai Embassy in Laos that does not require an appointment. Is that true?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai Consulate in Savannakhet, Laos does not require an appointment, offering a more accessible option for those needing visa services. In contrast, the consulate in Vientiane has implemented a system where appointments are mandatory. Travelers applying for tourist visas in Savannakhet must provide proof of funds and possibly proof of onward travel.

Is it true that in Vientiane you need to make an appointment? My son called Immigration Dept in Chanwattana and they said no appointment in Vientiane consulate is necessary.

Dave Mallon they checked my confirmation print out. And although it cleanly had my name and said CONFIRMED there was no queue #, which apparently there should have been. So the girl went to the desk to check. Fortunately my name and queue # was on the list and they allowed me inside. It’s a strict door. But the timing once inside was so sort. In and out in minutes. Just had to wait 3 weeks traveling in Laos for the appointment as I only learned of the new system after I had already bought my plane ticket. All good though. Laos is beautiful!

Thanks folks. That clears it up for my lad.

Dave Mallon it is absolutely true. I just did my Non B yesterday. I had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment. No way around it in Vientiane.

What type of visa are you going to apply for there?

Remember for a tourist visa they DO require proof of funds; 20K baht or the equivalent in a bank account and they might ask for proof of onward travel too.

Thanks

At a Thai Consulate you give a copy of a bank account, not cash.

20K Cash any currency will work ?

@Rob *********
nope, it's just for tourist visas.

Tod, do you need the 3 proofs in Savanakhet if you are applying for a 90 day non-o based on having a Thai child?

@Bill ******
Vientiane is the only thai consulate that doesn't require any of the proof ofz.

Penang requires proof of funds, onward travel and a hotel booking or lodging for at least a week.

K/L doesn't require proof of funds but it does require onward travel and proof of lodging for the entire trip.

HCMC/Hanoi Vietnam & Yangon are the same, proof of funds and onward travel.

Good to know - thank you. Is there a similar policy in Malaysia? I was never asked for that paperwork in Vientiane.

In that case
@Bi**
, you will definitely want to have proof of funds and onward travel with you when you go to apply.

The best way to get there from where in thailand?
Joe ***********
Easiest way is fly to Ubon - then a taxi to the bus station... then a bus or van to Mukdahan. At the Mukdahan bus station - take a taxi to the Savannakhet bridge - you have to cross over on a government bus after checking out of Thailand ...

Thanks - I am currently in CNX

If you're in Bangkok you can use either Air Asia or Nok Air's fly-n-ride programs where you fly to a nearby city then they mini van you right in to Mukdahan.

That is the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao. It's across the river from Mukdahan Thailand.

They do not require an appointment.
