Does retirement income and VA disability count towards a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) in Thailand?

I have a question regarding DTV. As of this Summer my spouse will officially be retiring from the military. His retirement and VA disability is more than enough to live off of in Thailand which is where I will be for my internship. I’m a full time student getting a degree in ESL with a focus on teaching Thai students specifically. I can stay in Thailand on my education visa during my internship but the husband and kids will be coming with me. He is too young for a retirement visa and he’ll need to be a stay at home parent since our kids need online schooling. Does the retirement income and VA income count towards a DTV? I’ve heard conflicting answers on expat pages so I figured I would try here.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is inquiring whether their spouse's retirement income and VA disability payments from the U.S. can be counted towards the DTV (Dependent Visa) in Thailand, especially since the spouse is not eligible for a retirement visa. They note their spouse's income is sufficient to live in Thailand while they complete an internship. A comment notes that DTV does not have specific income requirements but requires a bank balance of 500,000 baht or equivalent as stipulated by the Thai embassy.

DTV does not have any income requirement. It has a requirement to be able to show a bank balance of 500,000 baht or however much your Thai embassy says in your currency.

we have a very sizable nest egg we prepared in case we needed it and it would more than cover the 500k baht. I was more wondering about the proof of income requirement. Do they accept the military retirement pay stubs?

The remote work one says you need to verify you have a remote job with proof of income and information on the company. The spouse won’t be working though since he’s homeschooling the kids while I finish school.

I don't know what proof of income requirement you are talking about. DTV has no proof of income requirement.

again, there’s no income requirement with DTV. Just sufficient bank balance

For a DTV the only income requirement may be to show that you are a genuine remote worker if that is your method for applying for the DTV, no minimum amount, just proof of remote working

join the DTV group get proper information

It depends on what category of DTV !

Soft power you have to have 500k baht in an account.

Digital worker you have to show alot more ie income source, letter from employer stating you can work remotely and on and on.

Best way is soft power with a Muay Thai course.

being ex-military is irrelevant. Having a VA disability is irrelevant. The only thing that matters is you satisfy the financial requirements of the DTV.

I was just curious because it said “remote work” but he won’t actually be working. He’ll be homeschooling the kids while I finish my schooling. If it’s just based on income then I think we’ll be fine. Thank you 😊

he will need a letter from a legitimate business, or his own business, stating his job allows him to work remotely. Without this type of letter he will not get the DTV based on remote working. It doesn't matter how much he gets from the VA, or why. That doesn't count, as he is not working remotely, and has no documentation stating he is. His only option is through the soft power option, and signing up for legitimate classes in Thailand that are approved by the ministry of education. Money coming from the VA makes no difference to any embassy. It does not qualify for the DTV. There are no exceptions to this, as the remote worker category has no wage requirement, only that he would be making a wage by working remotely. There is no minimum wage requirement. There is a work requirement, and that is what has to be proven.
