I want to move to Thailand with my family next year (2 adults 1 kid). We've been nomads for 4 years but want to settle in Asia. I contacted an agency and was told we do not qualify for any visas. Our monthly income after taxes is over 10k USD with my remote job and business. Is what they said true? I thought we would easily qualify for DTV.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster is seeking advice on whether they qualify for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, despite being informed by an agency that they do not meet the requirements. They mention their sufficient monthly income of over $10,000 from remote work and business. Community responses suggest that they likely do qualify for the DTV, emphasizing the importance of proof of income, maintaining the requisite amount in a bank account, and the possibility of applying without agency assistance.

You can do DTV as a remote worker. There is a Facebook group for it. You have to apply on a Thai embassy and obviously outside Thailand. It’s gives you 5 years and you’ll have to leave the kingdom or make extension every 180 days.

go directly to immigration. be nice they will sort u out. it their job.

You will be able to get the DTV I'm sure, the reason an agent won't say that is because they cannot help you with getting a DTV as it's all done online which means they don't make money, some agents are now starting to say they can help though as they will arrange all your travel out of Thailand and stay while you wait, oh and on that note if you go to Cambodia or Vietnam or Lao now it's all online to apply and recently saw a YouTube video saying recent changes now mean it can take 14 days to process, so I advise some research in to that....maybe consider documenting the process to share as it is still early days for the DTV and sometimes changes happen but not shared..but good luck..

i wish I would known that when I asked. I was in Cambodia at the time and it would have been easy to go to the Thai embassy. I'm back in the states now. I'll just do it myself then.

It seems obvious (to me) you would qualified somehow so I am curious what your agency said?

they said we didn't meet any of the requirements for anything outside of a tourist visa. I provided our financial information which is actually higher than I stated.

I think you have a good chance for DTV if you prepare it well. You can also follow some of the experiences people share in Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) group also.

The agency you talked to, where was that at? It’s obvious they had no clue. Hopefully you didn’t pay them any money.

Do a search on Thailand Embassies.
Deborah *******
You can do it yourself very easy but must be done from home country

@Deborah ******
can be done anywhere that has an Thai embassy or consulate but you are required to be in that country from time of application to approval. I'm USA citizen, and applied in Taipei.
Deborah *******
With that you will have zero problem getting dtv- you could probably even afford international school!!

If you work remotely and have proof of that, can show you how a legitimate company, pay taxes etc then you will have no problem at all. Even if you can't satisfy the workation options you can still apply using the soft power options. But you will need to show 500k baht or equivalent in a bank account to apply
Gilda *******
@John *********
your account should sustain the 500k for 3 months. Fixed deposit accounts are not acceptable, only saving or checking.

@John *********
ok the 500k is no problem at all. I will apply myself instead of relying on an agency.

@Cee ******
some embassies will require 500K for you and 500K for your wife.

@John ******
that's shouldn't be an issue. I made sure there was that amount and each of our individual accounts and our joint account.

@Cee ******
best of luck, you can do it. There's a DTV group which can be helpful in regards to exact documents you may need depending on the embassy/consulate where you apply, processing times, latest updates, etc

@Cee ******
did the agent give any reason why you were not eligible for DTV?
John *******
@John *********
You must show that you have enough liquid assets to support yourself during your extended stay in Thailand. The minimum for this is 500,000 THB, but as you must apply for this visa from outside of Thailand, the embassy or consulate you apply through may demand to see a higher amount and will have their own set of criteria for how much evidence is required to demonstrate this.
John **********
@John ******
yep the evidence is a movable goalpost, the 500k not so much

@John *********
is that for the DTV John?

As long as you have bt500,000+ in your bank account in your name, you'll qualify in some manner.
