Can you buy a one way ticket to BKK when you have a DTV?

More specifically, will the airline be funny and question you for only buying a one way ticket?

I read this is a possibility for tourist visas so figured I'd ask.

TLDR : Answer Summary
In general, it is possible to enter Thailand on a one-way ticket if you hold a DTV. Many travelers have reported entering without issues, and airlines may not question your ticket type. However, it is advisable to check with your airline beforehand. In case of inquiries, buying a refundable ticket or a temporary flight reservation can serve as proof of onward travel.

Take a dummy ticket in case. It’s $10 🤷🏻‍♂️

I feel like I don't need it but there's so many mixed messages I think I'll just get a dummy ticket for peace of mind

yeah, I always have. I didn’t need it for DTV, but I got one because $10 is pretty cheap for peace of mind and to avoid road blocks at immigration

I've never bought a one way ticket before so this never been an issue, but you're right. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind right

I’ve never had a return ticket.

It is only for boarding that it can be an issue, but any onward ticket will suffice, even a bus ticket.

I have a bus company bookmarked that allows me to buy a bus ticket to Malaysia for less than $5 dollars should they ask, but never booked one.

Entered with Emirates last week from UK on one way ticket, no problem, no questions.

Ask your airline.

You can always just buy a flight reservation to cover yourself. I've used onwardflight a few times. It cost $14, and you get a legit booking/flight code. It covers you for 48 hours, so buy on the day off your entry flight. Last time I entered Thailand I was stopped at passport control, and I having this fugazi booking saved me.

Where did you get that from? Is it called onward something?

I've had this once but it was the airline requesting it, Etihad if memory serves me right.

I just booked an refundable ticket at check in. Showed them, got through check in, canceled. Job done.

Takes a few days or weeks for the refund so keep that in mind.

So you just book a full fare refundable ticket and after you get to Thailand you cancel the return flight and they pay you 50% of your money back?

No, 100% it because you only have to go next in Cambodia for example. Not a huge international flight. Some airlines accept bus tickets and some don't. They'll tell you if you ask

Oh so you're saying book your Thailand one way then book something like a separate flight or bus ticket going to a different country and then cancel and get a refund on that leg?

Entered Bangkok twice through DMK with just a one way ticket. No issues. Wasn't asked for a return flight.

My experience is that of entry with the immigration officer in Thailand. If you mean upon check in with the airline from origin country, then yes, this is a good point to note. My experience is since they see a 5-year visa they haven't asked so far. This is for Air Asia.

but they could. It’s more up to the airline. They F up they get fined and have to transport you back. But if you’re legit and can prove it shouldn’t worry.
