I have a question that does not effect me but maybe a lot of others. If you have the type of visa which requires border bounce and say you still have 9 months left on that visa, (and clearly border bounce is not an option) will getting an extension based on Thai spouse void that original visa?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original visa will not be voided by obtaining an extension of stay based on marital ties with a Thai citizen. Extensions can be sought without affecting the existing visa, and while the extension process requires the spouse's presence, it provides an additional way to extend your stay in Thailand.

For the extension of stay based on visiting a Thai family requirements, banked money or income is not required, however the wife must come with you to the immigration office. Each office may have slightly different requirements, so go and ask them for the handout. The extension of stay will cost 1,900THB.

thank you very much!

No extension of stays will void an existing visa. The immigration office can not void visas. I recommend getting the extension of stay based on visiting Thai family, extending your entry by another 60 days. When the land borders re-open, bounce out for another 90 day stamp.
