Hello

I have question about non-b visa extension:

Will/should extension always be one year not regarding about WP expiry date?

I will explain a bit with assumed case:

(I really just invent following case and dates)

Let´s think that person will get WP3 papers and 3 mont Non-B and she/he will arrive to Thailand 1.1.2020

Then she/he get one year WP from Labor office 15.1. (so expiry date will be 15.1.2021) and applies non-b extension just before 3month Non-b is finished. So he/she will get Non-B extension starting from 15.3.2020.

Question:

Should/will that extension be one year, expiring 15.3.2021 OR should/will it expire same time as WP (15.1.2021)?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question seeks clarification on whether the duration of a Non-B visa extension is fixed at one year or if it can align with the expiration date of the work permit (WP). There is a discussion about the relationship between the visa and work permit, stating that while a Non-B visa allows for a stay in Thailand, the extension generally lasts for one year, provided the necessary documentation and financial criteria are met. A follow-up question inquires about instances where recent extensions have been granted for a duration shorter than one year.

Ok. Next question then: have anyone recently got extension of stay (based by work) shorter than 1 year?

no. Extensions of stay for work are only available for 1 year - providing the company has the correct set up with staff and tax payments and stuff.

I think you’re confusing some terminology. A visa allows you entry in to Thailand (for a specific reason). Depending on that reason you get a certain number of days you are allowed to stay. If you are here to work then you can apply for an extension of stay based on working. As long as the paperwork and financial requirements are met then that extension will be granted for 1 year ( or more for a BOI company) Permission to work here ( a work permit) is an entirely separate document. Depending on your company set up it may be eligible for a year or more and renewable for a year or more.
