TLDR : Answer Summary
Generally, a one-day overstay should not affect your ability to apply for a retirement visa in Thailand. While immigration officers may admonish you for overstaying and you may receive a stamp marking your overstay when leaving, as long as the overstay is less than 24 hours, the fine is waived and it should not impact your visa application. However, it's advisable to avoid any overstays, as interpretation and enforcement can vary among immigration officers.

Overstay of less than 24 hours when leaving by an airport will not get you a fine but you will get a stamp that says overstay less than 24 hours fine waived. It will not affect applying for the visa, but it's recommended you don't overstay.

In this group I read many unfounded answers.
Each Immigration in Thailand interprets the law as they want, it depends on the officer in charge.
I always recommend following the directives issued to the letter, but do not leave it up to them to decide what to do.
