TLDR : Answer Summary
A user plans to leave Thailand after three years and seeks to re-enter on a visa exemption to switch from an OA retirement visa to a Non-O retirement visa. They have a previous overstay incident from two years ago and question whether this will influence their visa application at Phuket Immigration. Community responses suggest that the old overstay may not affect the application, provided it has been resolved. However, one commenter warns that applying for a visa while having an existing overstay is prohibited according to Thailand's immigration rules.

the question is, are you applying with an OLD, long ago overstay, or are you applying with a still existing overstay . . . . . . . . if you want to "change visa type" on the Immigration inside Thailand, from visa-exempt to a 90-days Non-Imm-o visa, their pdf. instructions clearly state: "IF YOU HAVE OVERSTAYED, YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATIONFOR THIS TYPE OF VISA." . . . . .

I already have the money in the bank but I thought it only needs to be seasoned for the extension.

Nope not a problem in the least.

Exit/re-enter on a free entry stamp and get over to the Phuket Immigration office to apply first for the 90 day Non-O and then 2 months later the year extension.
