Do you need to submit your passport for a DTV visa if it is approved, or is it an electronic visa?

Hi Everyone,

I am curious to know if your DTV visa is approved do you need to submit your passport to the embassy or is it an electronic visa so no need?

I ask this as I am working remotely in Papua New Guinea and would normally apply through Australia but I won’t be in Australia during this time and plan to be back with a stop over in Singapore and then on to Phuket on the 18/12/2024.

I’m an Australian expat that has lived in Thailand for the last 15 years but this is a new one for me and have always had a Non O Spouse visa multiple entries but that is no longer available.

Thanks for your help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the DTV visa application process for an Australian expat working remotely in Papua New Guinea, questioning whether approval requires submitting a passport or if it's handled electronically. Comments clarify that while the Non-O multiple entry visa is still available in specific locations until a certain date, the move towards an e-visa system may limit options, with emphasis on applying timely based on the applicant's current location.

Non-O multiple entry is still available, but perhaps not for much longer. If you go to Savannakhet no later than December 20, they'll issue one. After that, they will move to the e-visa system, where, for some inexplicable reason, they've decided not to offer the multiple entry version anymore.

Then you'll be fine. Apply now so you receive your e-visa in time.

If you choose in the e-visa website that you're located at Papua New Guinea, it'll display where you need to apply (online). Might be Australia or other country (you can't choose).

You must be in the country where the Thai consulate you're applying at is.

not exactly. You must be in the country where the Thai consulate has jurisdiction over. For example, the Thai Embassy in Santiago, Chile has jurisdiction not over Chile only, but also Costa Rica and other countries. So Costa Rican people living in Costa Rica apply from Costa Rica to the Embassy in Chile. It's not something you can choose, tho. When you input where you're currently located on the e-visa website, they tell you. I read somebody here that was located in Jamaica or Haiti (can't remember) got his e visa trhu a consulate in Canada, because it has the jurisdiction over those islands.
