You do not. South African passport holders can show up to thailand without having bought a visa at a thai consulate beforehand and get stamped in fre stamp (visa exempt) for 60 days

you can also extend that entry once for 30 more days at the immigration office for 1900baht after you're here

These are the countries that get in free stamp for 60 days
