Do I need to sign copies of my passport and rental agreement when applying for a retirement extension on a Non-O visa in Thailand?

Hello, we are going to Jomtien immigration tomorrow to get our first year retirement extension on our non-o visa. We will find out if we have to do it in Bangkok or if the drama was not necessary. We think we have all the required documents. Does anyone know if some copies will need to be signed by us, such as passport copies and rental agreement copies? Maybe it's just best to wait to see if they want them signed...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion outlines the process of obtaining a retirement extension on a Non-O visa in Thailand, specifically at the Jomtien immigration office. Key points include the need for signed copies of specific documents, particularly passport pages and entry stamps. A scenario is shared where the applicants were informed that they need to apply for the first extension in Bangkok due to the location of their original visa issuance, but they found a workaround by applying for a covid extension at Jomtien. They detail the challenges related to timing and the under consideration period for their application.

I'll put this here for followup.

We went to Jomtien to get our retirement extension, the guy looked at it and said because we got the non-o in Bangkok, we had to get the first year extension in Bangkok. We were about to leave and I asked if we could get the covid extension here. He said yes, then I asked if we got the covid extension here, could we then get the retirement extension in Jomtien. He asked someone behind the counter, and he said yes. An interesting way to bypass the system.

So we applied for the covid extension today, we have 30 days left on our non-o. The under consideration period is a crazy 28 days. That 28 days is on a Friday, our non-o expires that Sunday. No room for error. I don't know why the under consideration time is so long, considering we couldn't apply at Jomtien before 30 days left on our visa.

just checking.... Were you able to get the year extension on the 90 day Non-O visa at the Jomtien office without any issues?

, don't worry, I have never seen someone apply for a 60 day covid extension, get the under consideration stamp and then have that extension denied. You'll be fine. Go back on the date it says, get the 60 day covid extension and when you have 30 days or less left on that go ahead and apply for the year extension down there at Jomtien.

Yep, that's the plan. We weren't too distressed with the idea of going back to Bangkok, an easy bus ride. Just thought it would be nice to stay in Pattaya a bit longer. Wasted money getting the bank cert and statement. Oh well, I'm sure the bank needed the money. ๐Ÿ™„

without the covid extension being available you'd have been shit outta luck (sorta like I and other posters were telling you ๐Ÿ˜› )

BUT now that you got an under consideration stamp for a pending covid extension you're stuck because no office in the country will touch that passport with an open covid extension stamp in it.

Hope you like staying in pattaya because you're gonna be there until you close the loop on this open stamp and then another month until you get down to 30 days or less on that covid extension so you can apply for the year extension. ๐Ÿ˜›

You're looking at 2+ months before you can apply for the year extension now.

BUT on the plus side, you know how to get the bank letter, update your bank book etc ๐Ÿ™‚ and how that office works so it's all not bad.

- well I definitely did say the immigration officer at cw was clear we had to do it there in Bangkok. It is a fascinating way to bypass the system all due to covid. On the other hand, it was covid that kept us from traveling to Pattaya earlier and getting the non-o at Jomtien. Same same. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Starting next weekend they will be having music festivals on the beach in Pattaya. We love it here.

All copies of passport pages like data page, entry stamps and TM6, etc need to be signed. Do not sign letters from the bank or other supporting documentation.

Just sign everything you copied and it won't matter

I don't think I should sign the certified bank letter and statement unless they want it.
