When applying for a NON-OX Visa with Thai embassy abroad is it necessary to come to Thailand first to open a bank account and deposit sufficient funds for a year or could one satisfy the financial requirements also by showing sufficient funds in an account abroad?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The NON-OX Visa requires applicants to demonstrate financial stability through bank deposits in Thailand. Specifically, applicants must either deposit a minimum of 3 million Baht in a Thai bank account or have 1.8 million Baht in a Thai bank along with an annual income of at least 1.2 million Baht. Funds must be maintained in a Thai bank for at least one year. Therefore, simply showing sufficient funds in an account abroad will not meet the visa requirements. Applicants must establish a bank account in Thailand for their funds.

Thank you! So if OX Visa comprises of 2 Five year stamps would that mean that under the current corona entry regulations a (separate and additional) 5 year corona travel insurance with min. of 100k USD cover must be taken out? Besides the exceptionally high costs, I doubt that this would even be possible?

That'll be a question to ask the Thai consulate where you want to apply for the Non-OX visa. My opinion is you will only need COVID-19 insurance for the first year. However, ask the Thai consulate for specific details.

Foreigners who enter Thailand with other type of Visa/Visa Exemption may contact the Immigration Bureau and apply for Non-OX visa.

In reviewing the O-X requirements it appears that you must have the funds required to be deposited into a Thai bank account in your name only.
