Hi everyone, I am applying for a DTV visa, I need a bank account for 500,000 baht, do I need to open an account in a bank in Thailand? So that’s why I already sent them a certificate from my country's bank, they are asking again.

TLDR : Answer Summary
You do not need to open a Thai bank account for your DTV visa application. An account from an international bank is sufficient as long as it shows that you have the equivalent of 500,000 baht in accessible funds. However, different embassies may have varying policies regarding documentation, including duration of bank statements required.

What specifically did they ask for?

it does NOT have to be in a thai bank account. not for the application and not for the extension. any international bank is sufficient. it has to be a bank account in your name and accessible money.
Leigh ******
It can be any bank that is equivalent to 500,000 baht and you need to prove its been there for the last 3 months. Plus there are other factors that come into play. You will find all the rules on the DTV sites that explains everything. Not that hard to get.

depends on the embassy how long the money has to be sitting in the bank and if you need bank statements at all. i didnt (germany, frankfurt)

@Leigh *****
would that include an ISA

@Tony ********
that's not a bank account so doubt it's relevant.

@Lynnette ******
ok thanks but the money I have in an ISA is held in a bank.

Not much difference to my savings account being within a bank

if you say it's the same as having an accessible bank account, then no need to worry. But I understood it to be a current account. So maybe that's wrong.

@Lynnette ******
thank you for clarifying further. I appreciate your help

I'd double check it is ok to use an ISA. Would be good if it was ok.

No, it does NOT have to be a thai bank. Money from your home country needs to equal 500k thai baht. Different embassy's require different documents though, some want 3 months, some want 6 months of statements. Where are you applying?
