Do I need to apply for a new DTV visa if my passport was washed and I have a new one?
Hi all!
So I have received my DTV visa and traveling in 3 weeks time. However i unfortunately washed my passport and it was not in the best condition afterwards. I have went to the council and applied for a new passport. Hence it will probably come a couple of days before me arriving into Thailand. Do I need to apply for a new DTV or is it okay to show both passports and present my case?
It has not been activated yet.

I did that in 2003, the middle bit fell out and I glued it in with some clag glue.
It got stopped at Melbourne airport as being the master forger I was, I glued it in upside down.
Had to spend 3 days in Melbourne during the Australian open so it was not all bad.

Your biggest concern is probably denied boarding as your travel passport and visa don't match.

If you have been to Thailand before and they have already done your biometrics you will probably be fine. I would still bring the old passport.

Just try it with your new passport, take your old passport with you, go to a thai immigration office and change the passport number of your DTV. Thats possible.

The passport number of the visa itself cannot be changed, but immigration can make a remark in your new passport to link to the visa and the old passport.

I entered in Phuket with only my new passport because previous i lost it. But not my first entry with DTV. No issues at immigration with this new passport, that have different number obviusly

When you got approved the visa is active, there is no activation process for Thai visa, they become valid the moment they are issued.
Bringing both passports will be OK, no need for a new visa, as long as the washed passport shows the passport number, and preferrable your personal details

Either get the number changed on the DTV or carry the old passport for the next 5 years.

Embassy does not change numbers on a visa, they will ask you to apply again which is a waste of money as long as you have the old passport.When there is a reference in the new passport to the old number, made by issueing institute or by Thai immigration, only carrying the new passport should be OK.

That is up to you, then just present always your old passport too.I prefer to hand over just one passport, ans keep the old passport somewhere as backup IF some very strict IO asks for it.

I arrived in Phuket last year with my old and new passport and the IO did whatever magic she did and I no longer need to present my old passport. I carry it just in case but have not needed to show it at BKK or Phuket.Guy ******

"should" because it normally works that way, only strict legally an IO can still demand the old passport, because the reference just is not the passport itself.So I know exactly what I am talking about, perhaps you should think things through before posting such suggestive comments that are completely useless.

An old passport is not a valid travel document anymore, but the visa in it or connected to it are still valid as long as you can show the old passport.So the washed passport can be used to keep the visa valid.
So no need to apply for a new DTV visa as long as you still have the old passport, unless you are ignorant or stupid.

You do not need to get a new DTV, show both passports on arrival.

Hi Franklin, yes I doubted that myself. Hence my new passport will arrive a couple of days before I will travel again, I don’t have time to apply for a new DTV unfortunately to be accepted before I will travel.Activity
