Do I need to have 500,000 THB in my account for one month when applying for a DTV from the UK, and can I apply from Thailand?

Is it true that when applying for DTV as a Brit you only need to have had the 500k+ THB in your account for 1 month? And also to confirm I MUST 100% apply from my home country now, not a border run etc?

Thanks
Answer summary
The inquiry seeks clarity on whether British citizens applying for a Thai DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) must maintain a minimum balance of 500,000 THB in their bank account for one month. Additionally, the user wants confirmation that applications must be made from their home country and not via border runs. Comments indicate that new rules were published on August 31, 2026, effective September 15, shifting Thailand's visa exemption duration back to 30 days for UK passport holders after ongoing discussions.

Watch for the New rules to be published soon, in the Royal Gazette, in the coming DAYS. With them taking effect 15 days AFTER they are published.

And it’s not just terminology because visa exempt entry is not any kind of visa. There is still visa on arrival for a few countries which requires an application and a fee and gives only a 15-day stay.

Unfortunately a lot of the various websites go into great detail explaining how the Thai government voted for the visa stamp to be reduced to 30 days. What they don't say is it has to be published in the Gazette before being reduced th8nk for memory also once published it takes effect 15 days later. As of today 29 Aug 2026 not in the Gazette yet

Never was a 60 day visa on arrival, you get 60 day visa exempt which as of now has has not changed.

Takiep74 thanks, I guess I'm confusing the terminology. So as it stands for UK passports a 60 day stamp is given on arrival. That's brilliant!

EmeraldPoodle2189 update on the visa free entry. The orders have just been signed and will probably be promulgated in the Royal Gazette 31 August so only 30 days will come into effect 15 Sept.

it has been made law.

It has not been enacted.

And not a visa on arrival.

Visa free.

No, it's a visa EXEMPTION. Yes, it's free when you get here, but the two terms are not compatible.

Well, I did study law and acted as a litigant in person in a lengthy court case, so yes, words and their accuracy and interpretation are extremely important in law. That's why it's essential to use the correct ones, numbnuts.

But you don't seem to know that, do you? 🙄🙄

it's okay boo boo.

People use common terms.

Legal is used in.... wait for it.... courts, etc.

And you living here 22 years is irrelevant. What are you trying to bulldoze your way into? Being seen as a legal expert?

Length of time here means nothing for that.

Should I post a Pic of me here in 1986 to make you feel better?

😂🤣😅

After 22 years here, I an not assuming anything. It is YOU who has it wrong and assumes that visa free and visa exemption are both the correct terminology. Thai law says 'visa exemption' and as we are dealing with legal terminology, try to get it right for once in your ridiculous post.
Vin *******
Vin *******
@Stan ******
visa free is comparable. It is not a free visa that you are trying to assume.
