What should I consider about my visa status after multiple visits to Thailand in one year?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Not sure if i have a problem next time i visit Thailand. I visited Thailand from the UK 4 times in 2025, each time i returned back to the UK

Feb - Mar = 21 days

May - May =27 days

July - Aug = 31 days

Sept - Oct = 41 days

Total days spent in Thailand = 120

I realise now that i should have applied for a Visa first time around, but one never knows how things will pan out Thailand is such a beautiful country. I never thought that when i first came in Feb-Mar i would be returning another 3 times in 2025.

Thanks in advance for any comments

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster shares their experience of visiting Thailand from the UK four times in 2025, totaling 120 days, and expresses concern about potential immigration issues on future visits without applying for a visa. Responses from the community highlight the fact that while their travel history resembles that of a typical tourist, the cumulative stay may raise flags with immigration officers. Many commenters suggest obtaining a visa, such as a multi-entry visa, to mitigate risks during future entries into Thailand. They emphasize the importance of having proper documentation to avoid potential complications since entry decisions ultimately reside with immigration authorities who can interpret stay patterns as suspicious.

I got stopped. On my first boarder run , I did the 60-30 , as had to leave to KL waiting for my 10 year visa, the immigration office suggested it!

But was stopped at airport on re entry , had to show my paperwork, bank balance! Husband different counter walked straight through!

Every entry is judged on it's own circumstances. Although your travel history does not cover the whole year but if it did, it is obvious you are not trying to live in Thailand as it is less than 180 days. Your stays each time are typical of a tourist, especially returning to UK each time.

Although the pattern looks like tourism, every entry is judged on it's own based on previous history and not what you plan to do in the future. Using past history pattern to convince an IO on entry is a risk. Even with a tourist visa, it is still at the discretion of the IO as to whether to allow entry. It does not alter your circumstances regarding intention and past travel history but having a visa issued by a Thai embassy in your own country almost guarantees entry. Support information can always be provided in a visa application that cannot be used at immigration desk at the airport.

No visa extensions. That puts you in a different place, nothing is ever certain in Thailand but it does suggest you not abusing the system.

Pretty reasonable tourist behavior but wouldn’t be surprised if you get questioned, best to get a visa and make sure you fulfill the entry requirements

You aren’t abusing the system or bouncing between sea countries

What you have to be very mindful of now is immigration at your point of entry, advises you to apply for a visa "next time". Do it, because you can be sure that now you are on their radar and next time you will be flagged and possibly have problems because you have been advised/warned.

Thai police are doing the same thing with farang and drivers license. If you intend to stay or are more than 3 months in Thailand then you should apply for a Thai license. It happened to me once in Pattaya and once in Jomtien. I paid the 1000 baht "fine" and went on my way.

Everyone skirting around obtaining the correct visa results in a couple of things. 1, is lost revenue in visa fees and 2, is an opportunity to vet the less desirable tourist who wants to be a nomad and border hop and evade meeting financial requirements.

It's a new era and Thailand doesn't want the free living farang wandering around with no accountability and just free to do whatever they want. Thailand is now the world capital of internet scams, crypto, land & property, fake investments, online casinos, human trafficking, online shopping scams and the list goes on. Nearly all criminal activity online is conducted by a farang on overstay, wanted in their home country or in Thailand on a tourist exempt.

So the little games people have been playing for years, well the rules have changed. Thailand is not going to be the nice guy anymore and let everyone in with just a wai and a smile. No more Sabai Sabai 🙏

They have the right to vet whoever they want. So if you have nothing to hide and you don't want the hassle, get the correct visa. Get an METV and stop making problems that shouldn't exist.

I make no apologies if you feel that applying for an METV takes away your sense of entitlement but that's how it's going to be moving forward.

Four visits totaling about 120 days in a year is still seen from time to time with regular tourists, especially when each trip ends with a return to your home country. However, once you reach that level of cumulative stay, I personally would not gamble on trying to enter again on visa exemption. At that point it would be wiser to apply for a visa before travelling, or alternatively arrange a Safe Entry service through an agent. If you simply try to enter again, you must at least accept that the decision will ultimately be made on the spot by the immigration officer you are standing in front of.

3 30day stay

2026

1 56day stay jan/feb

Next is

28day stay in April

Not expecting any problems with airport immigration.

Retired by the way.

Google how many times you can enter Thailand in a calendar year to educate yourself.

I know that there's no limit on visa exempt entries, a calendar year has nothing to do with anything and that every entry is subject to the discretion of the immigration officer you will stand in front of. If they assess your history is not that of a typical tourist they can refuse you entry

Now your saying the obvious, of course its down to the discretion of the immigration officer, being polite makes all the difference for the last 3 years l have entered Thailand 4 times a year no problems, and only one lady immigration officer needed to see my condo owners black book which she added to my entry history and then l was on my way.

Your entries would look suspicious to immigration as it is not the usual tourist stays. It looks more like you are semi living there. I would get a visa (but even that doesn’t guarantee entry)
