TLDR : Answer Summary
You can typically apply for a visa extension 30 days or less before your current visa expires. Some offices may allow applications with 45 days remaining, while others, particularly in tourist areas, may require you to apply within the last week of your visa.

Most offices allow you to apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your existing stamp.

Some offices like Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai allow you to apply when you have 45 days less or left.

If it's for a tourism extension, some offices only allow you to apply when you're on your last week, like Jomtien and Koh Samui.

Ok, thanks. Fully intend to contact my office directly, but just wanted a rough idea. Should have mentioned it's an O-A extension.

If you're still on the original OA and you have insurance you can border bounce before it expires to get another 12 months (or up to the validity date of your insurance)

most people don't extend O-A visas because of the insurance requirement. So be prepared for that.

surely an extension based on O-A requires money in the bank

most people go home and apply for a new non-OA so they don't have to put money in the bank

Typically 15 days or less but if you have a special circumstance sometimes they will before that.
