Do I need to get my marriage documents endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok for a Non Imm O visa based on marriage?

Hi.

Non Imm O visa based on marriage extension question.

Trying to get to the bottom of it after a visit to the Amphur Mueang office in Korat today, to obtain Kor Ror 22.

Married my wife in Singapore (over 20 years ago).

Have.....

- Singapore marriage certificate and translation from English to Thai endorsed by notary public and the Royal Thai Embassy Singapore.

- I produced these in Korat today, was told that I require to gain endorsement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Laksi in Bangkok before can obtain Kor Ror 22.

Question = Is this correct? I need to go to Laksi MOFA to get another endorsement?

Tomorrow I am visiting a different Amphur office to try again.

I understand that the MOFA now has an online queue application for appointment that may take weeks. I don't have time to go through that as will leave the country in 5 days.

If an endorsement of my marriage documents by MOFA Bangkok is a necessity, can anyone suggest a reliable agent to approach? I don't expect to be back in the country until next year sometime.

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the necessity of obtaining an endorsement of their marriage certificate by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Bangkok before acquiring the Kor Ror 22 required for a Non-Immigrant O visa based on marriage. After presenting their marriage documents at the Amphur Mueang office in Korat, they were informed that MOFA's endorsement is needed. Several comments from the community confirm that this endorsement is indeed necessary prior to proceeding with the visa application, despite initial confusion over the matter. Various suggestions and experiences shared include seeking assistance from reliable agents to expedite the process, especially given the user's limited time frame due to an impending departure from Thailand.

For what it's worth this was how I did it for marriage registered in NZ. 1. NZ marriage certificate legalized by MFA in NZ before coming to Thailand. 2. Visit NZ Embassy in Bangkok to certify. 3. Down the road to Express Translation Service who arranged translation, processed with Consular Services and sent to me at home address (I was happy to pay them to save me running around doing it myself). Around two weeks to receive everything. I believe they can assist with getting your Kor Ror 22. Our immigration office didn't require Kor Ror 22 even though it was on the handout of required documents, the translated and legalized marriage documents were adequate but that's office specific I guess.

You may also need to do the same with a copy of your passport. In my case, it was also required that I do the following. (I see you are from Sheffield, and I'm from the US, so I don't know if there are any differences in the process for your embassy in step #2 below)

1: Get a photocopy of my passport (just the biodata page, and we did the signature page above that too; it's all one photocopy when a US passport is opened to the biodata page)

2: Go to the US Embassy and have it notarized as a certified true copy

3: Get that translated into Thai (a "certified" translation, as we did with our marriage documents)

4: Get that approved/certified/stamped at the Department of Consular Affairs.

It was required for us to register our marriage and get a Kor Ror 22. I've heard of some say it wasn't needed, and others say it was needed. So it may be different in different amphurs. It was definitely needed in our case. Not optional.

So if you are going to the Department of Consular Affairs anyway for your marriage docs, you may want to get the passport copy done at the same time.

Mai pen rai. It's quite a process, and it's not fun, but you'll get through it. In our case, even all that paperwork wasn't all we had to do. We still had to bring 2 witnesses with us to the amphur to sign one of the amphur's docs to register our marriage. I honestly don't know if that was just to witness the registration of the marriage (similar to witnesses of a marriage), or if the purpose was to attest "We know these people, and they really are married". But we got it done. Best wishes, and best luck to you!

thanks very much. We were told that we also have to bring two witnesses with us that time, but interestingly I am not required to be present. Just the documents and my wife.

Sounds strange since it was already endorsed by the Thai Embassy which falls under the MFA.

thanks. Actually don't have a visa yet as still working overseas in Singapore, but the time will come. I have had 3 weeks off work so it was a good move to try to gain obtaining the KR22. Now it is apparent that there is a further round to undertake prior to going to the Amphur office
