Dependant Non imi O extention:

We have a marriage licence from Gibraltar in english with an apostille from Gibraltar.

We also have the international birth certificate

from Spain for our daughter with an apostille from Spain.

But we were just told by HR that we need to get those documents certified by the embassys of each country here.

Which makes no sense cause they already have been certified in each country!

Is this still true?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original inquiry discusses the need for document certification for a Dependant Non-Immigrant O visa extension in Thailand. The user holds an apostilled marriage license from Gibraltar and an international birth certificate from Spain for their daughter. However, they were informed by HR that these documents must be certified by the embassies in Thailand, despite already being apostilled. Comments clarify that Thailand does not recognize the apostille due to not being a signatory to the apostille treaty and that further certification from the embassies and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs is necessary.

Thailand is not a signatory to the apostille treaty so the apostille is not recognized as certification/authentication in Thailand.

Go to the embassy and get them to either "authenticate it" or swear an affidavit of authenticity in front of the consular officer.

You then go to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Government Complex (Chengwattana) and get their stamp on it.

Now you are authenticated and good for use in Thailand.

Yes I understand that. Just saying that some things Thailand does require to be apostille by the US State department

@Da**
, they may or may NOT require the MFA stamp on the notary from their consulate. It is not always required

@Gr**
, which while interesting (y) doesn't have anything to do with getting a marriage certificate certified by a persons embassy in thailand :/

Not to sure about that. We had to get or kids born in the US birth certificate apostille thru the US State department. So we could get them a Thai birth certificate.

Unfortunately
@Nad***
, you are required to get your extension at the immigration office which serves the area where you live in thailand. They do not let you go to an office of your choosing for extensions.

I would suggest you either ask the HR person to get you a copy of the requirements OR you make a trip to the immigration office you use to find out for yourself.

Welcome in Thailand, sometimes things do not make sense. But if your Immigration Office wants those papers certified by the Embassy, there is not much choice.

Thats the thing. It is HR who says so.

I thought the requirements should be the same everywhere. But if not then i dont mind travelling trough half thailand to another imigration which does not ask for this.

Having to re- certify smtg from 2 different embassies in Bangkok would mean more hassle specially since we dont live in Bangkok.
