I have an as yet unused and valid multiple re-entry visa. I am returning home for 

2 weeks soon so today at immigration to do my 90 day report, I asked whether I need to do a TM8 and was told yes at first, then no when I returned with the completed form. It makes sense NOT to file a TM8 but would like a definitive answer please. Thank you.

Ps the 90 day report, as in person, took just 10 minutes and I didn’t require ANY other documents apart from the form and my passport.

nope, they were just messing with you :O You are fine, able to exit/re-enter all you want until the "valid until" date on your extension/re-entry permit
