Hello, I have just done a visa run to Mae sae, my stamp is until Jan 11th. I have tickets to leave Thailand on Feb 10th. What to do with this month that I have in between visa wise? Can I do Mae sae again? Can I extend at immigration? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
You currently hold a visa stamp valid until January 11th. You can either apply for a visa extension at the immigration office, which can extend your stay until February 10th, or consider doing another visa run after January 1st, as you are allowed two visa-exempt land entries per calendar year.

You have 2 visa exempt land entries per calendar year. That resets on Jan 1 so you can do another then whatever you did this year. Or get an extension as Joe suggests. An extension would bring you up to 10 Feb exactly.

i think I’ll go to immigration 😆

@Bi**
I have stayed overnight there before. It was a 14-day pass.

I think you have to specifically tell Myanmar immigration at entry though that you plan to stay overnight, if you don't they just stamp your passport out at the same time and give you a piece of paper for a day pass. I've done that too.

Ching Chang you do NOT need to buy a visa to Myanmar to stay in Mae Sai overnight.

your pass into Myanmar is a day pass. I don’t think you can stay overnight.

Ching Chang I don't think that's necessary, I think you can stay overnight on the $10 pass if you ask them. I have done it before, I think you do just have to tell them you want to stay overnight when entering so they don't stamp your passport with the exit stamp immediately.

The extension would get you to 10 Feb exactly because it is added on the END- so it would start after your current stamp, i.e. on 12 Jan.

Bouncing on 11 Jan the first day on your new stamp would be a day earlier, i.e. 11. So you'd only get stamped until 9 Feb.

Generally international airports in Bangkok at least will waive the overstay fine for overstays under 24 hours, if not it is only 500B per day. I would tend to avoid it even so.

If you do want to bounce again, you can go on 11th in the afternoon, stay over one night in Tachileik, come back on the morning of the 12th and then no problem, no overstay.

Or just extend wherever you are (Chiang Mai?), 1,900B without the day's travel and you will get stamped to 10 Feb exactly.

wow good point. How to deal with a day over stay if not?

Small detail, but worth bearing in mind- if you choose to another border bounce, rather than extend, you would need to stay over a night in Myanmar and come back on the _12th_ of January for your new stamp to 10 Feb. If you bounced on the 11th you would be stamped in until 9 Feb.

I'm sure IF/when it is actually implemented it will sweep the inter-web, <- or at least the very very small part of the inter-web that is related to thailand ;)
Miles *********
Tod Daniels yes, I was aware that it was originally only 2.. so when will it be implemented, as i read the Thai government were proclaiming success as a result of their new regulations..

@Miles ********
you thought wrong :/ It was approved by the thai cabinet but as of yet has not been implemented.

It's TWO 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year still

I thought this 2 per year limit has been removed making it unlimited... to help with the tourist industry and expats in neighboring countries who might want to visit Thailand more often ?
