TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is unsure whether to deposit 100,000 baht before or after obtaining the bank confirmation letter for a Non-O retirement visa. Community comments clarify that the necessary documents, including a detailed transaction report and a standard bank letter, can be obtained without a prior deposit. However, to update the bank book (which is necessary for the visa application), a transaction on the application date may be required.

Thanks everyone. All handed in and accepted. Luckily I went yesterday as I found out they'll only give one 30 day extension so had today only today to get it done.

What documents do I need to take for my nanny day check-in coming up in November?

Just to add one more point not mentioned. The letter and the detailed statement last 7 days after which you have to do it again.
Tod s an extremely helpful chap and the information he passes on is always accurate. He s helped me in the past and we are very lucky to have him on here.
there's a lot of people who contribute their time, effort and knowledge into making this group the go-to group on the inter-web for entry/visa/extension info to Thailand..
There are three things you need from the bank when you use "banked money method" for visa/extensions
** a detail transaction report
** a "standard" bank letter (which is like 5 lines says your name, your account number and the balance the day they wrote the letter)
** update your bank book on the date you apply for the Non-O visa/extension
It's that last one; update the bank book, that require many people to have a transaction the date you need the updated bank book. Because for many banks a bank book won't update with the current date unless there's a transaction done that date.
you don't need to do any transaction to get the bank to give you a detail transaction report OR the 'standard' bank letter, only when you update the bank book AND it also doesn't matter if the ending balance on the detail transaction report, the standard bank letter and the bank book don't match ๐ฎ As long as you're over the threshold required (which for retirement visa/extension is 800K baht in the account) you're fine.
if the 800,000 bht is already seasoned is the procedure still first a 90 day retirement extension and then a one year retirement extension? Or can you you apply directly for one year because money is already seasoned?
Do a transaction then update the bank book the day you go for the 90 day Non-O visa and it'll show the balance that day
Have the bank print you a 3 month detail transaction report (which is all that's required when you apply for the initial 90 day Non-O) on the spot when you get them to write/print the standard bank letter
At MOST offices that bank letter and the transaction report can be up to 7 days old and still be used

Thanks Tod.
Yes sorry I should have said bank book. Do I deposit 100 first then update the book and then ask for the letter ?
Do they give you a detailed transaction report or do I print statements off ?
The statements needs to be stamped by the bank, so get them from the bank.
Also, my immigration office would not accept the letter from my SCB bank because it has not been stamped, despite it being printed on bank stationary and signed by the teller. I had to go back to the branch for the stamp.
the bank will print them off for a small fee. I am not sure if you can print them off yourself. For the fee best to get the bank to do it. Some immigration offices can be fussy

In Chiang Mai, my two amounts (bank letter & passbook) (whilst being over the 800,000 threshold) did not match by 10 baht and I was told to go to the bank make a 10baht deposit and get the bank book to match exactly with the letter!
the "bank letter of guarantee" in Thai is "rab roong thanakan" and "for Immigration" in Thai is "fai Tor Mor" . . they might know if they had done it before. And you should make a copy of the bank letter, for yourself, for your next year's visit on the bank, so they will know immediately what you want
