TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether a person applying for a visa in Thailand needs to transfer money into a Thai bank account after submitting their bank statements. It clarifies that for initial visa applications made overseas (e.g., in the UK) for a Non-O Retirement Visa, funds do not need to be in a Thai bank account at that stage. However, once in Thailand and applying for an extension of stay, it is necessary to open a Thai bank account and transfer the required amount (800,000 THB) for approval.

when you apply for a non O in the uk you can use funds equivalent to 800k baht or 65k baht monthly in your own UK bank account in UK pounds, you do not need these funds in a thai bank account. Once you are in thailand and you want to stay long term then you will need to open a thai bank account and deposit 800k baht as part of the requirement of getting an extension

No, not if you are applying for a Visa at an Embassy. You will require a Thai bank account if you apply for an in country Extension of Stay.

Does your visa require it? If you are on DTV or other tourist visas then it's not required as part of the visa. If you have applied for a non O retirement visa then you will need a thai bank account as part of the extension
